- Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2015I bought this more expensive device to use as a ranger extender when we had to set up a home office that required the modem/router to be upstairs. Our home is about 2400 sq feet, with the office in a bonus room upstairs. I have this unit located at the bottom of the stairs and we have Comcast Xfinity internet.
I chose this based on the Amazon reviews of the ease of use, dependability, and customer service. I'm not tech savvy, so I was looking for something that would not require an advanced degree to use. This fits the bill for a person like me. I was able to set it up with ease, really almost 'plug and play'. We have multiple devices connecting to it and have seen no slow down, no dropping anywhere we are in the house. I haven't tested it out in the backyard yet.
Yesterday, our internet dropped and I had to reset the modem. I noticed that the Almond was having trouble holding the signal and appeared to be offline, but yet I had no problem getting the signal furthest from the modem. I went to Securifi's website to FAQ. I saw that there was an issue with the Almond 'appearing' offline, but was actually online, and a simple update would fix it. I followed the instructions, but my Almond needed to go to the next step which required it to be done with UI, which of course, I had to google to find out what UI means, lol. At this point, I'm thinking I need a cord and I'm not sure what to do, so I call tech support.
A Mr. Raju answers my call. I notice this is probably an overseas call center. I usually dislike getting the overseas call centers because most of the time, even if the person speaks English, there is something lost in context and it can be difficult to get the customer service/tech support agent to understand my issue. Not in this case. Mr. Raju not only speaks excellent English, but he had no trouble understanding my situation and what I needed to do. I did not get the 'run-around', I didn't get 'scripted' responses, I didn't get a condescending attitude, I just got step by step, EXTREMELY COURTEOUS help. He explained everything I needed to do, stayed with me on the phone about 20 min or so to make sure everything was up and running properly after the update, AND he even gave me some very good advice should my internet drop again and how to reset the modem and my Almond. It was so refreshing to have a kind, patient and polite individual to help me and treat me respectfully. In the day and age of 'no-customer service', this was a pleasant surprise and I would recommend this product and the company to friends and family. For me, it was worth the extra money for the peace of mind and ease of use!
I also want to give a plug to Amazon. I've been a prime member for almost 3 yrs. I was late to get into shopping with Amazon, and only because I got the freebie Prime trial when I bought my mother a kindle. I LOVE it. I do a lot of shopping with Amazon, especially on subscribe and save. And anytime I need honest reviews on an item, even if I don't purchase the said item from Amazon, I go here to see what people are reporting. Also, the only other time I have had a good experience with an overseas call center was with Amazon. I have had a couple of minor issues that required me calling customer service. Sometimes I get people in the US, and sometimes in the Philippines. Every time I have gotten the Philippines, it's the same as with Securifi tech support. The Amazon call centers in the US and Philippines have been so nice, so easy to talk with, 0 problems in communication and every issue has been handled beyond my expectations. Kudos to Amazon and their employees.!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2016I just received and set-up the routers on 11/17/2016. I had to wait approximately 3 months from the time I pre-ordered to the time I received the product. While I was slightly disappointed in the product delays, I am happy they took the time to send a quality product rather than rushing one out the door.
Background:
Wifi coverage within my 3600 sq. ft house has always been an issue. First I tried placing a Securifi Almond+ in the middle of my house. The coverage was pretty terrible on either end of the house where my office and great room are located. I replaced the Almond+ with an Apple Airport Extreme (latest version) and had similar results. I knew that if I wanted consistent coverage, I would need routers capable of a mesh network. I considered Eero and had previously pre-ordered the Luma Wifi routers but cancelled my order when reviews of the device started to trickle in. I then went with 3 separate Airport Express routers with 1 primary, 1 in wired AP mode, and 1 in wireless extender mode. This set-up was okay in terms of speed and reliability but moving from one side of the house to the other I would have to turn off and turn on wifi on my phone/devices in order to connect to the closest/strongest router. Workable but not ideal.
Almond 3 Set-Up Experience:
Having previously used a Securifi Almond+ router, I had a general idea of what I was getting into. Setting up the primary device was simple. Other than changing the SSID and password, it really is mostly clicking "Next" through a series of prompts on the router. It took about 10 minutes to set up my primary router. From there, I installed my wired access point router which happens to be on the other side of my house. Make sure to plug the ethernet cable into the "Internet" port on the 2nd router and the "LAN" port on the primary router. At this point, I had wished that I had used the Almond app to add the 2nd router rather than the interface on the primary router. This led to several trips back and forth across my house as it asked to verify blinking lights, etc. Total time to set up 2nd router was about 5 minutes. At this point, I could walk back and forth between either side of my house and the wifi signal strength would remain at "full strength" on my Samsung S7 without the need to turn off/on the wifi. It was glorious. I decided to check firmware version at this point and it took about 10 minutes per router to download and install the latest firmware. The 3rd router, I decided to place on the 2nd floor of my house in "extender mode." I used the app to add this router and with just a few clicks, it discovered the other devices and automatically upgraded the firmware. It took about 10 minutes total to install.
Adding Sensors:
This was probably one of the more frustrating parts of the set-up. Adding sensors can only be done on the primary router. There is no option to do so on the app. I first had to reset my Peanut Plug which was previously registered to my Almond+. It wasn't difficult to add the sensor, I just wished you could use an app rather than requiring you add at the primary router.
First Impressions:
It hasn't even been a full day so I haven't put it through all of its paces. Overall, I'm happy with the devices. I don't know if I'll ever use all of the home automation features but it is a solid system delivering the mesh networking capabilities I so desperately needed.
Pros:
Solid mesh networking capabilities
Touchscreen display
Smarthome capabilities
Relatively easy set-up
Cons:
Side mounted ports - this is nitpicking but the power cable plugs is underneath the the network/usb ports on the on the side. It would look cleaner if they were all on the underside or in the back.
Android App - Doesn't support configuration of all features. Isn't the most intuitive.
One More Thing:
When I got the Almond+, it included a Peanut Plug. I was pleasantly surprised when my package included a door sensor which I plan to install on my garage door since I am forever forgetting whether or not I closed the garage, especially when I heading away for multiple days.

John S.Reviewed in Canada on July 9, 20205.0 out of 5 stars Works Well -- Great Product
I have tried other extenders this one is easy to set up and works well -- Other products did not work in my situation.
I have 3 of these just ordered a 4th.. One is set up as as a router connected to my receiver (was not able to stream on my TV with previous router). The second one is set up in my Shop separate building set up as an extender (70 ft from router). The Third is set up in a cottage as an extender as well the the forth will be in another cottage. Cottages are 130 ft from shop. I run a cottage bushiness and Marina I am now able to provide wi-fi to my customers. Just added smart Tv`s in the cottages so customers can now have access to streaming services. --- (No TV service in cottages before just had 5,000 Lb TV ! and DVD. Taking them to trash as soon as I finish my review.)

Works well in a campground
Squee-JoReviewed in Canada on March 9, 20223.0 out of 5 stars They work. Build quality leaves much to be desired
I have them running in AP mode so I can't speak to all the features. GUI is poorly set up. Build quality is cheap. Power adapters don't properly lock in so if you touch it, it turns off. Set it and forget it and it works
