Security Chain Company's Peerless Chain Quik Grip V-Bar CAM tire chains feature a small 'V' of low carbon steel material, which is welded onto each link for added traction and durability. These are also CAM chains. CAMs are pieces of stamped steel that are placed on the outside rail of the tire chain. The keyhole on the CAM allows a tool to be inserted and turned, which takes up slack in the chain.

they just arrived, and they are not the same chains. the primary (maybe only) difference is that these DO NOT have the locking connector on one side of the chain: both sides only have hooks to hook onto the chain. i have never seen tire chains without the locking connector, but more importantly, those connectors ARE on the set of identical model chains that i purchased a few months ago.
chains that do not stay on are not only useless for traction, but they are dangerous to your brake lines. each time these chains came off i was luck that there was no damage to the brake lines or hoses, but i cannot take that chance again.
very disappointed that i did not receive the product i ordered.
UPDATE: i spoke directly to the distributor (peerless), and they confirmed that the chains should have the locking connection on one side. they said they are sending me a new set of the chains. i will update when i have received them.
UPDATE 12/18/18: i just received the replacement chains sent by the distributor. i posted an image showing the ends that are supposed to be secured. they have the exact same problem as the ones i hoped to replace. they have no locking connector for securing the chains, and the hooks at the end of the chain are not heavy duty. this is really pathetic, the company clearly understood what was wrong with the chains they had sent, yet they sent another set of chains with the exact same problem. is quality control simply no longer a part of doing business?
i will add that the last time i used my original set of these chains - which DO have the locking connectors, and where the hook on the non-locking side is heavy duty - one of the cross chains (the chain that goes across the tire, with the v-bars) disconnected on one side. it didn't break, but the hooks where they attach obviously bent to the point where it simply came apart. i hate to say it, but i obviously was mistaken when i thought these chains were truly solid.
I went up a dirt road about a half a mile with about 8 inches of snow on it, and 3 of the cross links failed and this allowed the chain to slip over the wheel and wrap around the axle. The chains battered the paint on my fender and caused hundreds of dollars in damage. I was stuck. As stated by other reviewers, the cross links are made of soft steel that bends and allows them to detatch from the main chain assembly. Don't buy this product if you plan on using the chains to go up any hills. The other reviewers must have either not used the chains or just travelled on flat roads. I returned the chains without any issues to Amazon. Others need to beware, these chains could really put you and your family at risk, and in my view are unsafe.
