Fielding Grey used to work for the Raven. Now he is freelance. Fielding hunts treasure on his own, hiring himself out to clients who are collectors. When the members of Solomon's hire him to locate and retrieve Pandora's Box, Fielding realizes that this is his chance to infiltrate the club. Somewhere within Solomon's is the answer as to who is responsible for his father's death. Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on one's point-of-view, Fielding finds himself rescuing a damsel in distress. The longer Fielding spends in Esme's company, the more attracted to her he becomes. But is it real or a result of the curse dangling from her wrist? And how can he keep Esme safe from the Raven, help her figure out how to remove the bracelet, keep the box out of the wrong hands, as well as search for information about his father's death?
***** This is one of the best historical romances I have read this year. I have always been interested in the legend about Pandora's Box. Perhaps that is why I found myself unable to stop reading. I read the entire book in one night. (Who needs sleep?) The engaging plot and charming characters blend together for one intoxicating read. *****

Fielding doesn't believe in curses, and isn't completely sure the fabled box exists--but he is perfectly willing to take the job to investigate Solomon's so that he can exact revenge on those men who were responsible for his father's death and his family's desperate and humiliating poverty until he regained his fortune through the theft and sale of private artifacts.
He quickly finds that the box is real--and is in the same room as a nearly nude woman hanging from manacles alongside two of the Raven's henchmen--both of whom have acquired cursed bracelets from toying with Pandora's Box.
Unable to leave the stunning but vocal kidnap victim, Grey rescues her as well as the object of his quest.
For her part, Esme Worthington expected to be shunned and live without family or suitors, satisfied with her father's extensive library and the 'aunt' she adopted at the library. Ruined not by a loss of virtue but by her intelligence, knowledge, and outspokenness, no one even realized that thugs had kidnapped her in hopes of learning how to open and profit from Pandora's Box.
Esme's relief at being rescued by the sinfully gorgeous Fielding Grey turns to horror when she realizes that her own inability to resist opening Pandora's Box has tainted her with a dreadful curse for a decent woman--that of lustfulness.Read more ›
I have become a complete sucker for "bodice rippers" and this was no exception! I breezed through this book. It was different from my usuals because it touched on a subject many others hadn't - magic! What if Pandora's Box was real and it fell into the wrong hands? What if we all fell prey to its powers? Esme was boldly flirtatious and Fielding was coy & aloof - the perfect role reversal for a Victorian couple! The LUST bangle she wore wasn't just a prop, but an excuse to exercise that muscle of hers that had gone unused (take that as you will). In addition, Esme was educated and studious and had an immense love & appreciation for books which I can totally relate too. I enjoy these books so much because I love to see the evolution & growth of these couples. What started off as a physical attraction based on the power of a little gold bracelet, grew into a love that neither could deny. C'mon guys, how could you resist this stuff?!
This book is not without twists, turns and action though. There are quite a few secrets from Feilding's family past that are revealed which throw him and us (the readers) for a loop. In addition, since the Raven is also after Pandora's Box, he will stop at nothing to get it - even if he means eliminating those who get in his way.

For the most part the story moved along. A few places were slow and I finally glossed over. BUT-- The rest of the book is definitely worth the read! Read morePublished on July 14, 2013 by Kindle Customer Annette

This is a good book. My only negative is there are times within a chapter that the story changes from one character to another and I found myself having to pause and figure it out.Published on April 21, 2013 by R Brooks
COVER DESIGN: A classic kind of sexy. There's just enough skin showing to make it erotic, but also enough clothing to convey the time period. Read morePublished on March 31, 2013 by Genevieve
