When Logan's regular assistant is out on sick leave the temporary replacement accidentally sends Amanda Thompson in to interview for the call girl position things go seriously wrong.
Amanda Thompson came to interview for the director of entrepreneurial acquisitions position. When the mistake is discovered, rather than walking out, she stays. She has a seriously ill sister to care for and retaining this job with health insurance is literally a "do or die" proposition. She resolves to excel at her job and ignore her boss's personal interest.
Logan is intrigued with the woman with the frumpy suit and he begins a slow, subtle campaign to seduce the conservative, stubborn, young woman who appears to be very focused on keeping him at an arm's length.
Logan is autocratic, Amanda is independent and stubborn, and the battle lines have clearly been drawn. This storyline has been done many times and could have easily slid into predictable and boring, but due to the author's strong development of leading characters, and a wide range of supporting characters, I found myself drawn into the story. It moves quickly and at the end, both Amanda and Logan get their happily ever after. This is a fun, satisfying read.
I greatly enjoyed this Romance though I don't usually read this genre - the cover was just too inviting and the characters really pulled me in right away.
For a fun but heart tugging romp, give this novel a try!
I gave it 4 stars because it was frustrating how long this couple was rude and detached emotionally from each other
ARC received via Netgalley.
I wasn't expecting any more from this than a simple, light and fluffy, easy to read romance, but in fact it had some substance I didn't expect. There's some subtle humour too :) I just love Rosie the temp...she was a fabulous character that was so useful in moving forward different parts of the story, and in showing people as they are, and not as they wanted to be seen.
Anyway, back to the main characters, Amanda needed the job for the health insurance benefits for her sister. I'm not going to go into the realities of life, how that wouldn't/couldn't happen as insurers wouldn't... etc etc but accept it as a reality in story-land, as it provides the perfect reason for someone with Amanda's ethics to stay in a job with a boss with questionable morality. He's seriously hot too, and once the first (funny) glitches are over Amanda has to work hard at keeping herself away from him, though she's not his normal "type" he's clearly attracted to her, and its good for him that he has to work at getting her trust and getting her to date him. I love the way he did that, cleverly telling her it was "work" so she felt she had to continue and go to functions with him. I need some bad bitchiness too and that was here in the guise of a jealous college. ( hump the frump - classic)
As things progress we learn more about why Logan is so determined not to let anyone get close to him, why he doesn't want any emotions in his life. He wants Amanda, something in her really appeals to him, he has fun talking and verbally sparring with her, something that's sadly lacking from the usual bimbos he dates. He's determined though she be with him on his terms, and already making plans for her when he feels the relationship will end, in three months, perhaps six. But he learns that things don't go the way we plan, emotions leak in despite our intents, and it made for a fun romance with some pathos, humour, and sensual seductive sex scenes.
It's a good read, easy to follow, and with lines that will bring a smile to your face, as well as incidents that will have you feeling really sad. Its not got such depth that I'd rate it a five star keeper, but it's one I did enjoy, and that I got more from than I expected. Priced at £1.98 for 243 pages/422kb its excellent value for those of us who like our romance to be sexy and fun.
