Much more interesting were two support characters—Dena and Jeff—who were more fully realized, with more implied individual struggle and redemption than the main characters. I really appreciate Me's agenda that sexual submission can hold a great deal of power (with the right Dom/me), and I feel Dena's character has the potential to convince us of that, should she make a return appearance. I hope these two will get their own book.
I consider this book a worthy read, but an unworthy introduction to Me's canny writing; if you are new to her work, start with The Submissive or The Dominant, where you really can't go wrong.
What I liked:
This was my first book by Tara Sue Me, though I had definitely heard of her. Her Submissives series is very well known and a lot of erotic readers loved it. So I was excited about seeing what she had to offer with Seduced by Fire. I have rarely underestimated and author quite so much ever before. I thought I knew what I was going to get with this book. A cookie cutter version of what most author's have decided the BDSM community is all about. With overly dramatic characters that really didn't show the expressive and often beautiful relationships found in this type of lifestyle. I just knew it was going to be one of many that brush the darker side of things under the rug, but I was wrong. Very wrong.
Tara Sue Me has written a book about, what I think is an extremely realistic version of a BDSM relationship. The ups and the downs, the ins and the outs. She doesn't sugar coat, she doesn't glorify, she doesn't even take liberties with the feelings of her characters. She lays it out there and lets the reader decide what to make of it. She isn't trying to convince the reader, or even change their minds, it just is the way it is, the good and the bad.Read more ›
Daniel's character is so strong and fierce and takes on the role of Dominant very well, in all senses. Julie is a strong submissive character who comes into her true character after learning from Daniel and Sasha. Their relationship grows as Julie continues to discover herself. Something happens to Sasha which makes Julie question her submissive decision. But there are enough people around her to help support her while she decides. Daniel is obviously taken by Julie and while he does what he feels is best for Julie, it may not be best for him. We also meet Cole in this book, his story is in The Master. I love the relationship between Daniel and Julie and the growth of the characters.
Tara Sue Me writes a wonderful series and I am enjoying the stories. I look forward to more reading ahead.
