1. The Tree. The tail end of this tale was anything but timely! The pace of the book was entirely confusing considering the balance of life that was nearly an obsession of Syn’s. It was absurd as a reader because there was so much explaining.
2. I lied. Over-explaining! There were many many paragraphs where I felt the reader was intuitive enough to grasp the insecurities and worries of our heroes. The best fictions tell the story behind the story. And too much was in plain sight for my taste. The subtext of PNR fiction is the lifeblood of the genre! We can fill in the details and we feel so rewarded when we do because it proves our intelligence as it underlines that of the author!
3. Erratic changes in mood. That happened a few times. That’s all I’ll say.
What many complain of but are special:
There was a quick transition in Syn’s development but I’m not mad. Considering the first three books, it was hardly quick! It was a delicate titration of pain and loss becoming fearless leadership. That was clear.
Our favorite alpha was not playing gamesssss! And I loved every minute. I didn’t think they lost any passion in what some quipped as “fifty shades of fairy”. Hah!
During the whole series, you really don't know who to trust. There are many turns and twists that keep you on your toes and many surprises to try and knock you off you balance. Ryder is frustrating most of the series and there are times you almost feel that Syn deserves better (until the end obviously). There is definitely more erotica than adventure, so if that is not your thing than this might be a bit disappointing to you as the plot couldn't carry the series without it and I did find some parts slow from time to time.
Book 4 is good because things finally start to come together when it feels like the rest of the series everything is falling apart and very near hopeless. Syn definitely finds her voice and her feet and begins to take charge when the rest of the time it felt like she was just being bounced from situation to situation.
I liked the ending but was a bit surprised it wasn't more explosive. I would still recommend the series.
Enjoying this writer is just too easy and knowing she has left the way open to hear more about this world, its rulers and the people they care about and protect, is something I am looking forward to. .
This series is seriously one of the absolute BEST I've ever read!! Normally I'd space out books in a series so I don't get bored with them, but this one kept me on my toes from the first book to this one. I'm actually a little upset that I've read them all already (smh). I really didn't want them to end!
I understand it takes time to create a masterpiece, so I'll be patient. Just PLEASE don't end it here. There's just too much left undone!!!
