Editorial Reviews

Review

"Seducing and Killing Nazis is a fascinating non-fiction tale set during the darkest days of the Second World War. Richly illustrated with archival photos, Poldermans' book is a detailed account of the Oversteegen sisters, Freddie and Truus, and their comrade-in-arms, Hannie Schaft, three young women who refused to take anything less than an active role in ridding the Netherlands from its Nazi occupiers and their Dutch collaborators. Mind blown! As I was getting into the story, I was transfixed!" -- Kathryn Atwood, author of Women Heroes of World War II.

"In Seducing and Killing Nazis, Sophie Poldermans recounts the remarkable actions of three young women who, driven by a sense of duty, went to extraordinary lengths in the resistance against the Nazis in the occupied Netherlands. Seducing and murdering Nazi officers, the women sacrificed their own mental health and lives to fight against what they knew was wrong, displaying uncommon bravery for their time, and becoming symbols of feminist strength. Meticulously researched through years of Poldermans' ongoing interest and personal engagement with the story of the women, this reportage is important reading for scholars of the Dutch resistance movement in WWII, and an inspiring account of courageous action in the face of unacceptable inhumanity." -- Mieke Eerkens, author of All Ships Follow Me. A Family Memoir of War Across Three Continents.

"This compelling book recognizes the astonishing bravery of three young Dutch women, resistance fighters who willingly risked their lives to seek and kill their Nazi targets. So perilous was their work that one of them combed her red hair and applied lipstick before any attack, so that she could "die beautifully." Using both historical evidence and personal interviews, Sophie Poldermans tells their fascinating story while providing an important contribution to the body of academic research into the Second World War. Intriguing and Educational!" -- Elinor Florence, author of the bestselling Canadian wartime novel Bird's Eye View; and the non-fiction anthology My Favourite Veterans: True Stories of World War Two's Hometown Heroes.

"Very strong and moving.Very well researched. As soon as I started to read, I could not stop anymore!" -- Manfred Nowak, UN Expert on Children Deprived of Liberty; Secretary General of European Inter-University Center for Human Rights and Democratization, Venice; Director Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights; Scientific Director Vienna Master of Arts in Human Rights,Postgraduate Center, University of Vienna.
