This standalone series opener is a pleasant break from the usual PNR shapeshifter book. It features fada water shifters with aquatic lifeforms, land shifters, and Sun Fae. I found it to be very entertaining and engaging and I can't wait to read book two. Dion do Rio is alpha of the Rock Run Clan of fada water shapeshifters. They are bordered by a clan of land shifters who want the river fronted land they inhabit, and a Sun Fae clan, whose queen has been seducing their strongest men for the past twenty years, leaving them in a state of physical and mental decline, and ultimately weakening the clan and their lands. But the last straw comes when Cleia, the 200 year-old queen, seduces Dion's much younger brother, forcing Dion to take action by tricking Cleia and taking her captive. He plans to force her to admit what she's done and to have her return the power she's taken from the clan. But Cleia is much stronger yet gentler than he ever imagined and she claims she knows nothing of the cumulative power drain. As days pass, she wins friends among the clan members while the Sun Fae accelerate their attempts to find her, hiring the land fada alpha to track her. And as war looms, Dion becomes uncertain as to the best path to save his clan, as well as his heart. Because with every day that passes, he is more certain she is his star crossed mate.
Title: Seducing the Sun Fae Series: The Fada Shapeshifters Note: Book 1 and is a HEA with no cliffhanger Author: Rebecca Rivard
This is my review of Seducing the Sun Fae, book 1 in The Fada Shapeshifters world. I got this first book in the series free through an Amazon purchase. This is the start of a great series but it does have its own ending. Be warned though you will not want to stop with just this one book and if you have not read the others you will want to read them right after this.
Meet the Fada, magical shapeshifters who can turn into magical creatures. They are looked down upon by most races because they are considered "mixed bloods". There are also the Sun Fae, magical men and women who seem to be the best of the best. This book follows Dion, who is alpha of the river fada, and Cleia, Queen of the Sun Fae. Dion thinks that Cleia is taking river fada as lovers in order to drain them, and their clan, of life energy. The men come back as shells of their former selves and the land the clan is on is producing less food and fish. It has gotten so bad that in order to survive the males of the clan have had to take up jobs as mercenaries just to keep their base running. Dion allows himself to "accidentally meet" the Fae Queen and she is instantly attracted to him and takes him as her lover for the night. Instead she wakes up blindfolded and in the lair of Dion who says he will return her to her people as soon as she returns the energy of the clan that she has been stealing. Dion and Cleia are very interested in each other and it only gets stronger the longer they are together. Cleia is stuck out of the Sun and is losing energy everyday and wasting away. Will she be able to get away? Will she be able to help Dion and the river fada with their problems because she does not even know how she could be stealing energy and denies it. We also meet Tiago, Dion's younger brother who was a lover of Cleia until she found out he was so young (wait until book 3). There is also Rui who came back a shell of the man he used to be and broke off his mating with Valeria so there is a lot of negativity towards Cleia in the clan (wait until book 2). Will they be able to stop the issues in time or will the Sun Fae risk falling because of the actions of Dion?
I loved this book and was sad when it was done. The great part is that it continues! You meet a good amount of people in this book and the author is so great at bringing the characters alive that you find yourself picturing them.
A great fae romance and beginning to a series. Fada and fae may live near each other, but they have nothing to do with each other if possible. At least that is what Dion, alpha of the Fada wished. Now his clan is slowly dying and it is the fault of the sun fae queen. But her has plans to make her stop and save his people. What he didn't expect is the feelings and the need he would have for her once he caught her. She doesn't know why the fada are dying but can she make him believe her? A fairytale in the making.
I knew from the description that I was going to love this novel, and I wasn’t wrong. I love reading stories about faes so I was immediately attracted to the fantasy of the story. What I wasn’t expecting was how hot this story was! I actually had to walk away a couple times to catch my breath before I could return. Normally, I don’t like dialogue during my erotic scenes. More often then not, it sounds cheesy and silly. Rivard has a talent with writing such dialogue without taking away from the heat of the scene. In all honestly, it made them even hotter.
It wasn’t all about the sex, however. The author created a fantastical world filled interesting creatures. I can’t wait to read more stories to learn more about her mystical races. Not only that, but she did a great job of adding meat to the story, creating a cornucopia of characters whose stories intertwine. I found myself wondering about certain characters and hoping she continues their stories in the next novel.
The only true issue I had with this novel was how stubborn Dion was. I guess if I look from his point of view, I would understand. I wonder if the author gritted her teeth while she wrote him being so bullheaded. I know I would have.
This story could have gone wrong so very easily. I have read it countless times before. Rivard knew what she was doing and expertly wove a story of love, sacrifice, and fantasy. I will definitely be continuing the series.
