Kerrigan "Kerri" Lush was assigned to interview an anti-gambling crusader at the last second when the regular reporter had to go to the hospital. Kerri was expecting an older grandpa in a suit. What she got instead was a handsome stud in motorcycle leathers: Alex Beaufort, who's also an incorrigible flirt. Kerri fell hard for the Frenchman and learned his past was bitter enough to make him the man he is today. Alex found Kerri to be tempting, but when he also found she carried a debt AND has a minor gambling addiction, and her happy facade hides some deeply buried sadness, is she someone to stay away from... or spend forever with?
Somehow I don't feel the connection between the two for this one. They are pretty much opposites attract, and the flirting is fine, but a connection between the two beyond the flirting... I just don't feel it.
SPOILER..... From the first I took a dislike to her and it sort of ruined the story for me. I just could not, for the life of me figure out why a man like the hero would be attracted to her - except for the big boobs. She was so snarky and hateful to him and rude. She wears high wedge sandals to go sailing. He suggest a more suitable shoe, after she asks if she is dressed ok. She informs him she will be fine, she can walk on anything. Up to this point in the story she has almost face planted 3 times because of her pick of shoe wear. The character just ruined the story for me. I really had to agree with the reviews in the 1 star reviews. I think they said it better than I did. I didn't down mark the story simply because I didn't like the heroine. But I couldn't give it my usual 5 stars for all the other books I have read. So, I would suggest that you read and see what you think. I certainly don't want to discourage anyone from reading the book because I didn't like the heroine.
I was not paid for this review. I am not an author nor do I know one. I am not kin to this writer. I am a reader and this is just my opinion, nothing more, nothing less.
This book received a number of five star reviews, so some people obviously enjoyed it. I hate to say that I was not one of them. I didn't hate it, but I definitely didn't like it. I skimmed through some of it. I don't know if it was that the book was boring or the h was so unlikable that I didn't care. I am glad this was not the first book I read by this author. I have enjoyed her other books much more.
I would say read and judge for yourself.
I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to read something a little bit different. Kerri wowed me from the first page. She's sassy, fun and flirty. And it doesn't hurt any that the sexy Frenchman is a hero to die for.
Kerri is the first to admit she has a slight problem with gambling...not that she's going to admit it to a man who knows first hand the havoc gambling can wreak on ordinary lives and has made it his mission in life to help compulsive gamblers kick the habit.
I look forward to reading other books by Kris Pearson...she's an author to watch out for.
