With that said, the writing of the book was very good. The premise of the constable that gets sent to a small village because of overaggressive police work is really nice. Especially since the constable is a woman. The fact that she is a competent police officer and thinks aggressively (doesn't abuse people, but thinks aggressively) adds to the story. She is going to be underutilized in this small village.
But on her first day she comes across several teenagers who are smoking dope, drinking alcohol and well, just as teenagers do, they are breaking the law while having "fun." One of the young men has a small motorbike and Shannon wants to make sure that it is not stolen. So, she makes the young man push the bike home where she meets his father. Well, the meeting is what makes the Romance part of the novel. His dad, Spencer, is an Earl, but more than that a car enthusiast, and not to forget, drop dead handsome.
Now as a car enthusiast you would think a rich man would just buy and drive. But Spencer likes to buy, restore, and then drive. Shannon's dad happens to also be a mechanic and she grew up helping restore cars. So, one connection.
Several other connections happen and it appears that love at first sight will win.
But the village that the Earl, Spencer, is governing has some problems. There are drug runners, sex slave traders, and well, petty crimes, such as a horse that keeps breaking out of it's pasture and eating the neighbor's garden.
I won't give the rest of the story. BUT, the romance is that of poor girl meets rich, entitled man, who shouldn't pay her any attention (did I say Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice). It is a bit simpler than Austen's work, but very much along that great line of writing.
The police side of the story is wonderful, as good as any crime writing that I have had the pleasure of reading and reviewing.
If you are like me just skip about 60 pages of steamy sex scenes and the book is a hit. If you like steamy sex scenes then guess what, you are going to love the book also.
This is my first Cop book and I have to say “WOW!” I absolutely loved it! The author has a way with her smooth writing to draw in the reader with some addictive characters and some detective like suspense solving dangerous crimes and drama’s of high society snobs/perbs vs middle-low class meter okra mentality.
First let me say that the characters and their chemistry drew me in immediately. I loved Shannon (village constable) and her intuitive ambition. The woman is sexy, fearless, caring, and blunt as hell. Her joking attitude towards life kept me laughing throughout the whole story. Shannon is the type of woman who has worked for everything she has; she is not rich or poor but has grown up on the poor side making her have a greater appreciation of life, respect, and a passionate soul towards other human beings.
Spencer is one big Hugga Bear, yeah he is a high society rich aristocratic Earl (Sir Bloxington) but he is down to earth and has personality of Old School formality and politeness. He is sexy, built, and passionate – a real knight in shining armor. His tale of losing a wife and raising a son (Ben) is heart breaking and in a way makes him blind to the things that are going on around him – well until he meets Shannon – LOL
The story’s plot is filled with exciting suspenseful drama solving several crimes that seem to flow like a triple effect from one person’s actions. Dealing with young punks, drug and human trafficking, murder, black mailing, jealousy, conniving evilness, Frauds & stolen identities, and lots of trust issues amongst themselves, the story just totally captivates you. Get ready for a Braingasm as the author put it.
The romance is beautiful. The passion between Shannon and Spencer sizzle’s off the page like hot lava flowing down a river (4 flames). Spencer loves Shannon more than there is love in a love bank and Shannon follows her own rule of Law – “I’ll always give of myself what you give me of yourself.”
The secondary characters were just as humorous as Shannon and Spencer. I loved her BFF Mel and his adopted motto “If you’re happy today you’re going to be chasing that ever-after feeling.” I was so tickled to see him find some happiness too. Of course there is always a favorite character to hate and that would be Jasmine - Talking about an Evil spiteful Freaking Witch/Beoutch, the drama alone from her wanted me to jump in the book and kick her butt.
The ending was blissful as the climaxing of solving all the crimes, working through the trust issue, earning respect from a community, and realizing love conquers all regardless of your rich or poor status comes to an understanding justice leaving you content and with a smile on your face. I leave you with this from the character Mel remember this – “Love doesn’t knock. It mugs you when you go out or slides under the door if you stay in.”
Excellent Read! I look forward to reading more of this author’s work.

When starting this book I was really quite surprised at Emma’s writing style and how sophisticatedly written this book was. Emma’s descriptions and similes were other-worldly – she could have written an entire page about snow without saying the word ‘snow’ once yet I still have a clear picture in my head of what was going on and how Shannon was feeling and that’s a very talented thing to be able to do. This book has some graphic adult scenes in, but they’re written very tastefully. It’s no 50 shades and they’re between a couple who care very deeply for one another so are in no way offensive or portraying women (or men for that matter) in a bad light. I also liked that they weren’t rushed because if there’s one thing I hate most about reading a sex scene – especially when the book is considered ‘erotica’ - is when the whole thing is over within half a page with no indication of how the characters are feeling. It’s like an author got too embarrassed about what they were writing and just stopped! This definitely wasn’t the case with Emma and she cleverly describes not only their actions in a lot of detail but they’re feelings as well which I think indicates maturity. The way they speak to each other during these heated scenes is quite unrealistic and I’m not sure people actually talk like that but I’ve never slept with an Earl so it’s hard to judge… I like that this book doesn’t only focus on the steamier, sexy scenes – it has a considerable amount of crime and police action in it to, which I loved. Both aspects of the books were very well balanced which is what made it work so well for me.
It’s really refreshing reading a book where the female is the more dominant figure and Shannon was the definition of a dominant, strong, female figure. I absolutely loved her with her quick and witty sense of humour and her quirky and fierce personality. She was confident and to the point so all-in-all the perfect protagonist. Quite frankly, I’ve had enough of these storybook women gushing over a man and turning into jelly in their company. Shannon used Spencer to her absolute advantage and got him exactly where she wanted from the very beginning. I don’t know whether that was the cop in her or her natural self-confidence but whatever it was, it worked. Despite being a cop, she doesn’t play by the rules and the prime example of this I found is when Shannon is writing a birthday card out for Spencer after only meeting him once and the narrative says, ‘Could she, should she add a kiss? She knew she shouldn’t. So, she did and sealed it’. Spencer was a great character too – extremely well-developed and very interesting to read about. How often do you read about a sexy, millionaire Earl? It was definitely a change of pace! All of the characters were very read-able and well-rounded. Even the ones you love to hate. Move over Mr Grey – there’s a new Earl in town. Shannon’s Law is dramatic, mesmerising and extremely sexy with an ultimate fairy-tale ending that will renew your belief in true love. An absolute must-read.

The storyline jumped straight into the action and I found myself quickly hooked on Shannon's straight-talking attitude. She yearned for something exciting to happen in the quiet village of Fleetwood-Green so she could put her police skills to good use. She came across a group of teenagers in the woods and this led her to Earl Spencer who had an instant affect on Shannon.
Shannon was a brilliant character, she was very strong and feisty, some of her comments literally had me laughing out loud! I was curious as to why she was transferred to the village from Brixton but it soon became clear. Spencer was a mixed character - he had a nervous, sweet side but I also got the feeling of strength and power from him. The supporting characters were as interesting as the main characters, I particularly liked Mel who made up a great comedy duo with Shannon.
The criminal side of things was really interesting for me, a gruesome discovery got me thinking up all sorts of things - I felt like a detective as I tried to solve the case alongside Shannon. There were some very tense moments as she performed her duty as a police officer, a heart-pounding rescue mission was one of my favourite parts of the book.
Once again there were times when I found the authors writing style to be almost poetic, especially the romantic/steamy/sexual scenes. Shannon's sexual encounters were described in detail so please bear this in mind when you choose to read this book - it may not suit everyone's tastes.
This was another enjoyable read from Emma Calin, romantic and sexy with a twist of police action!
that a run for its money!
This book had me hanging on to every word, talk about a book you can't put down. 268 pages and I read it all in just one day.
This book not only entertains you, but is also fun and extremely absorbing to read, Emma Calin encaptures the readers attention and keeps it. With a bit of everything from action, mystery and extreme spice, it keeps the reader distracted for hours.
Emma Calin is such a creative author you will find her books hard to put down, I cannot wait to read the next book in the chapter.
Her personal life is sent in a spin when she meets the local Earl. There is an immediate attraction but before they can find happiness they have to overcome a jealous old friend and solve a crime.
This action romance moved quickly along keeping me reading.
