A well made film of high caliber. Thoroughly enjoyable and remarkably light hearted for an otherwise somber topic. A must for the serious movie buff.
It showed the typical love Italian style, mixed with the unfortunate but ever so present, mafia influence, and the poor and misguided Italian southerner.
Today's audience might see this as just an old fashioned, regional and quaint comedy centered around the time worn subject of the Mafia, but in so doing would be avoiding looking closely at today's world.
This film is more horrific to see now than when I first saw it many many years ago when young and even more naive.
What is to dislike here? The story, dialogue, acting, direction, camera work, music? It all works so finely together, with unique style.
My favorite of her movies.
Studio: Fox Lorber (A Winstar Company)
DVD Release Date: March 31, 1998
One Star for the DVD: To produce a cheep widescreen version - Fox Lorber Home Video has taken the movie's full frame image version and has cropped off the top and bottom part of the image. Fox Lorber simply removed part of the image just to please those of us who prefer the widescreen format. Many times during the movie the bright light will bleed over into the black cropped bars producing a glowing horizontal line within the black bars.
Five Stars for the Movie: A great movie! I cannot wait to buy a new DVD release of his movie that is Restored, Digitally Re-mastered and presented in its true original aspect ratio. Until then I will just have to settle for this piece of junk DVD transfer that I just paid $31.50 for.

This comedy shows Giancarlo Giannini and Lina Wertmuller at their best, and it was instrumental in lightening Italy's rigid "no divorce" law.Published 3 months ago by dds
An all time classic, a must see for Italian film aficionados.Published 5 months ago by Michael Barrett
This movie was very enjoyable. It was a very good depiction of the post war period in Italy, both north and south and the actors performed their roles beautifully.Published 11 months ago by August J.
I saw this Wertmuller film many years ago when it first debuted and remembered it was enjoyable. Recently watched again and enjoyed it even more with a more mature eye.Published 17 months ago by NCIndependent
