- Reviewed in the United States on March 22, 2016I pre-ordered my See America book and was lucky enough to get it a day early!
It's gorgeous and does an amazing job of capturing the spirit of the National Parks. I love the decision the authors made to order the parks chronologically based on when they were established - this really helps to convey their beauty while also educating the reader on their rich history.
I can't say enough good things about how cool this book is.
Ps. this makes an awesome coffee table book and would be a great gift for anyone!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 31, 2016This is just a beautiful book, coffee-table style but smaller in size. Each page displays one of the beautiful 'See America' posters with some narrative about the park or site in question. One page is prettier than the next. The pages are arranged in chronological order, starting with The Washington Monument and ending with the Pullman National Monument. Of note, you can purchase these posters by going to the "See America" website at [...]. Enjoy!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 4, 2016This is a great book. It really makes you want to see more of America and appreciate the natural beauty of our country. It definitely makes me want to get out hiking. Unlike other coffee table books I have, I actually have been showing this to guests when they come over. As well, I might order a few of these illustrations as posters as some are truly unique and inspiring. That said, I wish the book was a little larger and also a few of the images were more lackluster and were less evocative and powerful as the others.
Bottom line - it's a great buy. I can't wait to see what these folks comes up with next!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 12, 2020Part of the New Deal, President Roosevelt's Federal Art Project created thousands of posters celebrating our nation's landscapes with the hope to motivate citizens to get out and see what this country's treasures. This book is a result of a campaign to re-imagine those posters. In the 21st century, anyone can contribute a piece of digital art, and this has helped connect new audiences to remind them of the value of our national parks. It is fascinating to see how different artists have reacted to those well known places. Other customers have noted that the posters are not of equal "quality", but I think the wide range of interpretations is what makes the book so interesting. I also don't mind that the book is small and affordable, this is appropriate for a book of poster art. Posters are not meant to be finely detailed like photographs, not to be expensive.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 11, 2021So, as cute of an idea as this book was, it was not what I was hoping for. Each park had its own deco poster design, tiny description and brief history. Idk. I think I was just hoping for more. Still, the art is good
- Reviewed in the United States on April 15, 2016Such a great book! Visiting national parks is one of my favorite things to do when traveling, and not only does this book beautifully remind me of some the amazing places Ive seen, but also gives me a list of so many other ones to check out. Its well put together and the illustrations capture each park in its own appropriate and unique way. While this makes it a great coffee table book, the addition of the short paragraph descriptions for each entry also make it super informative; a great way to get more people interested in these amazing places!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 23, 2016I received my copy today and it is an awesome book. I love the idea that a group of young artists collaborated to honor our National Parks. The posters are beautiful. Although I've visited several National Parks, I didn't realize there were so many. And some I was unfamiliar with. It makes me want to add many of the parks to my "bucket list."
I recommend this book and I plan to give it as a holiday gift.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 2, 2016Great book to use to plan trips to our multitudinous National Parks. This serves as more of a beautifully illustrated index than a book that describes each park in detail. Kind of phase one trip planning. There are s o o o many great parks to see.
