About the Author

Joel Pollak is Senior Editor-at-Large and In-House Counsel at Breitbart News. Prior to joining Breitbart, Pollak was a Tea Party-backed Republican candidate for Congress in Illinois and a Research Fellow at the Hudson Institute, focusing on human rights and international law.

Born in South Africa, Pollak became a U.S. citizen in 1987. He holds law and bachelor's degrees from Harvard University, and a master's degree from the University of Cape Town.

Pollak has published three previous books: Wacko Birds: The Fall (and Rise) of the Tea Party, The Kasrils Affair: Jews and Minority Politics in Post-Apartheid South Africa, and Don't Tell Me Words Don't Matter: How Rhetoric Won the 2008 Presidential Election. He is a contributor to Canada's Sun News Network, a frequent guest on Fox News and CNN, and lives with his wife Julia and daughter Maya in Santa Monica, California.

At first I marveled at the irony of negative reviews with 1-star rating from reviewers that appear to have not even read the book but disagree with it. To write a review about not being able to handle a book about not being able to handle some hard truths, is like hating cars because you don’t know how to drive.

Now I said at first because I have had the pleasure of knowing the author from years back and I am sure that not only was this negative reaction not a surprise to him. Let’s face it, it is the entire point of the book.

For those who have not read the book, you will all find at least one chapter that you will relate to. For those of you thinking about this book (if you’re not why are you reading this) please review the comments and take them as the validation of the material in the book that they are.

To the 1-Star Trolls: I know this book triggers you but please stop, you look like a bunch of kindergartners being beaten up by a professional football player.

I liked the straightforward presentation and the clear,concise rebuttal to the
left's misdirected,political correctness. This should be read by the anti Trump protesters and by anyone who thinks the Constitution is outdated and a living, evolving document. If a document like the Constitution is considered outdated or obsolete, what could be said of the Bible? Is it obsolete simply because it was written in a different time?
Well worth reading.

Read the book and you'll understand.

The author lays out not only the inconvenient, uncomfortable truths that the Left wants to wish away, but WHY the left (and voters who lack discernment) ignore and deny these truths. In Part I, we read the words of one left-wing operative (R. Creamer), "When presented with facts that are inconsistent with the frame through which people view the world, the frame will generally win, and inconsistent facts will be discarded or discounted. That’s why our top priority has to be the relentless repetition of our frame." The Left knows that people get stressed over evidence that what we believed to be true is not (you'll see much demonstration of this stress in the emotional reviews of this book). Not only that, we often accept a belief because it makes us feel better about ourselves to identify with the ideas of the Left, even if they're nonsensical, false, ineffective or damaging, and for that reason, we don't look closely enough to see that they are.

This book is divided into three parts: "Suppressing Dissent," Suppressing Debate," and "Suppressing Truth." In each of these parts, there are 6-7 chapters dealing with specific topics that liberal message-makers seek to control using the toolbox methods of personal attacks (those who disagree are stupid or evil), straw-man arguments, name-calling, intolerance, exaggeration, rationalization, and lies. The book is rife with examples on a variety of issues, including radical Islamic terrorism, gun rights, minimum wage, climate change, Amereican exceptionalism, Christianity, poverty, race, immigration, and more.

This book is very timely as the Democrats -- who have blocked nearly every legislation opposing slavery, segregation and Jim Crow -- attempt to convince unthinking Americans that they're the party that champions minorities, and as their presidential candidate condemns Trump for inciting fear about a real threat (Islamic terrorism), as her party incites even more fear over climate change computer models.

This book demonstrates why, as parents, we need to teach our children to be rational, to know why they believe what they believe, and to value clarity over feeling good. As Americans, we need to understand the issues rather than swooning over slogans, to seek answers, not validation. This book can help sort out the uncomfortable facts, see how lofty-sounding ideas play out in real life, and understand the dangerous thinking behind the relentlessly repeated phrases and emotional appeals.

An okay look at the Left. I was a little disappointed in that while its in depth and goes over the 19 Hard Truths as the Author calls them, I was hoping for more on what to do about what we face. This is an outstanding overview of the 'truths', I've read it all before so for me personally it fell short of expectations.
