A Learning Journey Blog
See It and Say It Flip Flop Spanish is an outstanding foundational core Spanish curricula for the whole family! We will definitely continue using the curriculum this year 3-6 times per week covering 1-2 lessons. It will not take us two years to complete the curriculum especially if we decide to speed up or continue at our current the pace. We didn't want to take a week off (break week) as indicated in the manual, so we decided that we will incorporate the suggested activities into our day for a week in addition to the new lessons. I look forward to the more advanced and challenging grammar lessons including preposition work and verb conjugations seen in the future. I can't wait to see the excitement on Alyssa's face when I tell her that she gets to write her own skit.
I felt like the complete curriculum was interactive and engaging. It is a non-threatening way to learn the language. My daughter's conversational Spanish has definitely improved during the review period. She is acquiring new vocabulary and utilizing the language with confidence. I was impressed with how quickly she understood the grammar points and used them accurately when forming Spanish sentences. I have to admit the curricula includes A LOT more grammar than I expected, but this unexpected surprise definitely pleased me. This unique approach works! Not only is she learning new vocabulary and pronouncing words correctly, but she is working on sentence formation at an early age while having a blast.
My husband and I agreed that we would take her Spanish curriculum on vacation. It would give us something productive and educational to do as a family. We knew we would spend some time indoors since it's so hot in Texas. During our camping trip, Alyssa met a girl who was using the SAME curriculum. They quizzed each other on words they learned reviewing material on their own. We also ate at a Mexican restaurant. Our waitress who spoke primarily Spanish enjoyed having a conversation with Alyssa. She was shocked and impressed with her vocabulary usage, pronunciation, and comprehension of what she was saying. My daughter is definitely more confident in attempting to verbalize specific sentences using the language.--A Learning Journey Blog

Sometimes, jut the process of opening up a new box of curriculum is enough to get me excited. When our review package arrived from Flip Flop Learning the contents of our box were exciting! Inside we found a set of three brightly colored flashcards, the curriculum mania already three-whole punched, ready for a binder, a write on/wipe off paddle, a dry erase marker, four audio CDs, and two baseball card holders. Interesting. What do you think the baseball card holders are for? I asked my kids curiously. This stuff is gorgeous, which alway puts me in the right frame of mind for learning. On top of the teacher s manual, my youngest daughter noticed a long strip of cardstock proclaiming See It and Say It Flip Flop Spanish . . . Whole Family Spanish ages 3 to 93. She claimed it as a bookmark.
I was glad she read the bookmark out loud first before disappearing with it. I wanted all my big kids to know that this curriculum was not just for the little ones. It s even for me! See it And Say It Flip Flop Spanish is for all of us! Here s how it works. Once you get your whole-punched curriculum manual into your binder, you open it up to the first lesson ready to go.
You listen to the first lesson on audio cd and the teacher tells you exactly what to do, you touch each flash card to identify the right one and then flip it over quickly to see if you are correct (six flash cards in the first lesson!) you practice saying the words with the teacher, and you get to build sentences using the (drum roll please) baseball card holders we were so curious about. By lesson three, you are using the whiteboard paddle to play a form of Pictionary® with the words you have learned. How fun is that.
See it and Say It Flip Flop Spanish is very sensory oriented. You touch the cards, flip the cards over, listen to the teacher on cd, look at the cards, listen and interact with each other, draw on the whiteboard paddle you are getting a lot of sensory input while you study Spanish. At first I was thinking how perfect this was for my daughter, but I quickly realized that this form of learning in a sensory rich environment is great for all of us. Plus, it s a lot of fun!
This is one of the few things I do with all my kids together and I love how perfect it is for every age group. We just have fun with it, and nobody is worrying that it is babyish or to hard because none of us knows Spanish and we are all learning four to six new words each lesson and a rapidly growing variety of sentences.
My Bottom Line: We are enjoying Flip Flop Spanish and with two years of curriculum included in our box we still have a lot of fun learning to do. I highly recommend Flip Flop Spanish. It is my favorite Spanish curriculum so far. I liked it so much, I went ahead and bought the iPod app.--Amy Blevins, Owner of Homeschool Encouragement

First, I love, love, LOVE that we can sit down together and learn from this curriculum as a family... no matter our ages! (DS, 13, DD, 9, and DD 4). I love that within minutes of listening and learning WITH my children (meaning, I don't have to study and learn before I teach), I am able to guide them as we begin speaking Spanish, immediately. I love that Sra. Gose suggested we have a room in our home or a time of day that is designated "Spanish" to practice hearing and responding to one another in Spanish. (For example, she suggested the kitchen or while unloading dishes. Turns out, the first few lessons include kitchen items so our family speaks Spanish while we prepare meals together then show off our new words and abilities with Dad at the dinner table. The kids especially love when they get to teach him a new word!)
After we listen to Sra. Gose introduce the words and walk us through the lesson, she leads us through games to play. My kids tend to be a little competitive so we did order extra sets of cards for each child. The kids then use those cards to build sentences with their new words. Often times, building these sentences leads to looking up and learning more words as the children want to convey more and more complex ideas in their sentences. We end the lesson with writing our new words or sentences (depending on the age of the child). The kids really enjoy the games and are excited that we are learning while we play. My 4 year old often asks if it's "time for Spenglish yet?".
As a teacher, I never have that overwhelming "Oh no, it's time for Spanish" feeling. Our entire family always enjoys See It & Say It Spanish. It's easy to pull out and press play for our lesson, then easy to replicate the lessons the rest of the week with or without the CD. Hear it, play with it, then write it. All types of learning styles (and teaching styles!) are accounted for with this curriculum. My only challenge with See It & Say It Spanish is sitting back and watching the kids play without taking over! (Maybe I should get my OWN set of flash cards, too!)
Our family loves See It & Say It Spanish and I think you will too!
