My overall rating for this book is 4.3 out of 5 stars.
There were fewer extra commas than needed, but still far more than should have been in the book. And this time there were quite a few question marks that should have been periods. In a few spots, the wrong word was used.
I still enjoyed the story, and am looking forward to book 3 of the series.
One thing that impressed me was a brief synopsis before the story began catching us up on what happened in book 1. Since I just recently read the first book of the series, I didn’t need it – but from reading over it I saw several areas where I would have greatly appreciated the refresher if it had been several months since reading the previous one. ~smile~ I suppose it’s possible to read this story without reading the first book, but then so much of the background enrichment would be missing and some plot lines would feel confusing. I recommend reading book 1 first.
From specific comments in the Epilogue, a few earlier stories/series are merging into this story line. Those earlier stories are not necessary to enjoy the Kindred series, but will likely provide a richer background on a few of the characters. I happen to already have those earlier stories, but just hadn’t read them yet. Now I’m extra excited to go read those!

I am amazed there are not more reviews of this great book! If you've read the first one, how can you NOT go on to the second!
What a marvelous continuation to the series!
I loved the first book and love the second book and am SO looking forward to a third! You could read this as a stand alone because Mr. Bradford summarizes the first book pretty well in the beginning. I wish more authors would do that. There are some books that you don't get the next book for awhile and are totally lost. I've actually put some down until I can find the first book before.
Mr. Bradford brings more of the characters from Seeds of a New Beginning to life in rich colours and contrasts. He enriches the story he started in the first book.
You begin to learn the personalities and characterizations of the sisters (and brother). I wondered if the girls mothers brought more to the picture than you think because some of the daughters (and the son) have personalities quite a bit like their mothers. Particularly Tabitha Young, daughter of Liz Young, who died, who was quite opinionated, brash and a bit selfish I felt. And Mel, the only boy in the group, who was Sarrah's along with his twin sister Alp. Sarrah seemed to be a hard-nosed bitch only out for herself.
Such hardships and drama to over come, the girls go from one extreme to the other. You find you sympathize with them, hoping they finally make it out alright, until another crisis happens. At the end you realize things are not quite what you thought. All in all I was sad to have it end. Mr. Bradford has produced some interesting thoughts and concepts that allow you to envision things that might be.
