Meconopsis betonicifolia (Himalayan blue poppy) is not actually rare, but rather it's a plant that grows in fairly limited geographical areas and USDA growing zones. The plant thrives in Anchorage, Alaska (cold winters/cool summers mostly 60-70 degrees F) but will likely not survive in most areas in the continental U.S. because of the summer heat. Growing Meconopsis from seed is fairly challenging, particularly without good instructions. Seeds will frequently germinate, but the seedlings will damp off and die. If the summer temperature where you live exceeds 80 degrees F on a daily basis, the likelihood of Meconopsis surviving is fairly limited, at best.

This is, of course just my opinion, based on my experience with Meconopsis and the literature that I've read. I live in Anchorage and have grown Meconopsis commercially for more than 10 years.

The order arrived very quickly in a few days. However, NO explanation about how to plant these special seeds was included. I planted them more than 4 weeks ago and no signs of seedlings yet.

I just found out on the internet that seeds must be in a dry paper bag inside the refrigerator for 4 weeks before you can plant them. They also need to be kept under 18° C when planted or else they die. Since I did not know this information, I did not do this before planting them.

When you sell a product, you should include some information about it, especially when it is something unusual like these seeds.

Thank you.

Many of these seeds purchased from this company didn't take with the exception of the columbines. out of about 6 packets of various flowers I only got a few to actually grow. I used a seedling starter with enough moisture, but just didn't get success.

not a single seed sprouted from this batch so I was very disappointed. I followed all the instructions and I'm a pretty good at gardening so not sure what the problem was. I planted these, my bat flower seeds and sensitive plant seeds all at the same time and the only ones that grew or showed any form of life were the sensitive plant.
I may try these seeds one more time too, but might look for them elsewhere in case the problem was getting a bad batch of seeds.

Not one plant made it beyond a couple of weeks. Germination rate was low. I am guessing that while my climate is very conducive to garden, it was not a good fir with this seed. It is disappointing as I love this hard-to-get plant.

I shouldn't have been surprised by the size of the seed because I grow large orange poppies. I get at least 500 off of one flower every year. So I am hoping that they will increase the amount in the package next time. Also 3 of my seeds stuck to the seal on the inside of the package and i was not able to get them off before loosing one on the floor and crushing the other two. I am still waiting for them to germinate, hope they do.
