I adore your novels, whether Krewe, ( never missed one since the beginning) or the lovely couple in NYC, or any of your novellas, or unrelated novels to the above mentioned.
But, I'm have to say, 4 years ago my best friend and I were in Boston Area, actually staying right next door to Revolutionary Park, it was the weekend of the Boston Marathon, needless to say, they had yet to open Boston back up, and while getting on the interstate my best friend said, "that sign says Salem, 21 mi...), so instead of South we went North. Salem here we came. We are going back, one afternoon is not enough, if you're really interested in the history, and we were. I can tell you we spent hrs just sitting in the "witches" graveyard talking about the history and how much was hidden, hence the tours, and historic guides. Anyway, this book meant so much more having been there, my goal is of course New Orleans were so many of the Krewe novels took place, but safety is an issue for two weenies....
I really enjoyed this book!
Side note: Salem was established by a Mayflower Plymouth landing individual, who's statue you mention in the beginning of the book. Odd, how Plymouth, now part of Cape Cod's numerous little townships, did not have this issue.
The history is basically uncertain, most agree it was over land disputes and power, if which certain men had all. The trials didn't end until the governor of that time (English governor), wife was accused. Until then, a blind eye was turned.
I love this bc I loved Salem, and adore old graveyards, living in SC, Charleston and Savannah, and many Civil as well as Revolutionary area graveyards are truly amazing and beautiful.
My husband is buried in one with individuals from before the Revolution, till now, and all that is in-between...the old part (Victorian) is as stunning as many in the Boston area.
I absolutely love the Krewe of Hunters series and this book is a prime example of why. It's a great read with action, intrigue, and romance. The characters are wonderful and well-rounded. I was caught up from the beginning and never let go until the end. While the series is a lengthy one, it's well worth reading them all. If not, look for the individual trilogies or quartets within the series. I'm really looking forward to the next book. I highly recommend this book which is the first in its trilogy.
