So who is the Saints Protection & Investigation (SPI)? First, Jack Bryant started the firm after he left the military as a member of the Special Forces. Jack pulled together men from the CIA, FBI, ATF, DEA, Border Patrol, SEALs, police, and ex-military devoted to the missions that no one else wanted or could solve. Ms. Jordon has given each character in SPI a name that relates to a “Saint” and she allows this knowledge to unfold in her stories that gives great meaning to each man that just happens to go with the current story line.
Book 4 focuses on Bart Taggart who we have met in other books. He is one tough ex-Navy Seal and doesn’t want to settle down with just one woman. Bart doesn’t believe in “special” gifts, like psychic and no deceivers. When Bart was assigned to assist the FBI in searching for a kidnapped boy, he is paired with a dark-haired beauty, Faith Romani, and a woman who says she has the gift of sight.
Faith a psychologist and artist, works for the local police occasionally, using her special gift. While Bart does not believe in Faith’s gift, he attracted to her and the sparks between them is undeniable.
Will Faith and Bart get their HEA or will Bart’s ridged views keep them apart?
Bart oh Bart, what an ass he was in the beginning towards Faith. His quick to judge and rather myopic view of things supernatural wanted to make me smack his head. Then again, after what happened in the previous story, do you really blame the bloke? When he realised what an utter ass he was and opened his mind, he redeemed himself so beautifully. Still, my favourite Saint is Jack *shivers*
Faith, my beautiful and somewhat confused heroine. Blessed (or perhaps to her cursed) with the ability to be able to sense things. She's adamant that she's not a psychic and I don't think she is either, she's just gifted through her art. I really like her character, such a strong heroine and full of forgiveness and empathy.
Overall I did enjoy reading although I do wish that they are wee bit more sexy times between the H/h. We don't get that till more than halfway through the book. I love how Ms Jordan ended the book, with a twist! Now I really am looking forward to the next one, I hope the mystery person will be reveal. I'm curious to know who she is ... yes, I'm very sure the person is a she!
*received author's copy but thoughts of the book are my very own*
"Bart’s eyes moved back to the drawing. He could see what she had seen in her dream, but was it real? Was it the imaginings of an overactive dream? Or the visions from a woman who had a special gift. One that he had never believed in. The idea of his grandfather standing with him filled his mind. Search for truth, Bartholomew. Always search for truth."
Faith has always been a loner, trying to make ends meet while downplaying her "gifts" and abilities to avoid ridicule. She finds herself in over her head fighting her attraction to the handsome Bart and being overwhelmed by the emotional case.
"Leaning down, he kissed her gently. Moving back slightly, he smiled, thinking how much he loved her kisses. Deep, long, and passionate. Or just a touch of her intoxicating lips. One of promise or one of a quick goodbye. I thought I was falling…but I’ve already fallen in love with her. Even with everything swirling around them, he could not keep the smile off his face. When this is over, I’ll tell her…and hope to hell she feels the same."
Saints Protection & Investigation has fast become my favorite Maryann Jordan series.
