About the Author

Randy Alcorn is an author and the founder and director of Eternal Perspective Ministries (EPM), a nonprofit ministry dedicated to teaching principles of God’s Word and assisting the church in ministering to the unreached, unfed, unborn, uneducated, unreconciled, and unsupported people around the world. His ministry focus is communicating the strategic importance of using our earthly time, money, possessions and opportunities to invest in need-meeting ministries that count for eternity. He accomplishes this by analyzing, teaching, and applying the biblical truth.

Before starting EPM in 1990, Randy served as a pastor for fourteen years. He has an MA degree in Biblical Studies from Multnomah University and an Honorary Doctorate from Western Seminary in Portland, Oregon and has taught on the adjunct faculties of both.

A New York Times bestselling author, Randy has written more than forty books, including Courageous, Heaven, The Treasure Principle, and the Gold Medallion winner Safely Home. His books in print exceed seven million and have been translated into over fifty languages. Randy has written for many magazines including EPM’s issues-oriented magazine Eternal Perspectives. He is active daily on Facebook and Twitter, has been a guest on more than 700 radio, television and online programs including Focus on the Family, FamilyLife Today, Revive Our Hearts, The Bible Answer Man, and The Resurgence.

Randy resides in Gresham, Oregon, with his wife, Nanci. They have two married daughters and are the proud grandparents of five grandsons. Randy enjoys hanging out with his family, biking, tennis, research, and reading.

This book assemble's some of Alcorn's best writings related to living for that which will last for eternity. It contains sixty days worth of devotions or meditations including perspectives from God's Word and from God's people in each daily reading. At the end of each devotional there is also a link to Alcorn's blog where you can read more on the topic (in the Kindle version - you just click on the link and it takes you right there). Some of the topics addressed are as following: True Happiness; Homesick for Heaven; Grasping our need for Grace; Seeking God's will; True Repentance; A Theology of Laughter; God's Sovereignty; The Christian Optimist and God's Glory and our Good.

Each day hones in on two to three key Scriptures on the topic; two to three great quotes from people like Spurgeon, Chambers, Lewis, Piper, Ryle, Sproul, Tozer and Luther; and focuses on the hope and joy that we have in our promises from the God who holds the future in His hands for our good and His glory. Alcorn's insights from the Scriptures are clear, cogent, profound, and practical. This book makes a great gift for graduates, birthday's, anniversaries, the elderly, and any disciple of Christ who needs comfort and encouragement for the ups and downs of life. We all need to reminded of the hope that we have in Christ. I highly recommend this excellent compilation of Alcorn's finest thoughts on Heaven and living for eternity.

Short and simple: EXCELLENT!
To be quite honest i downloaded the kindle version because it was being offered for free, not expecting much of this book.
For my surprise, I can honestly say it was one of the best books I have ever read.
This is a 60 day devotional, and I finished it in one day, simply couldn't stop.
Thank you Randy Alcom for this awesome book.

I like this devotional, because the entries are brief and still meaty! You can easily read each one in just minutes, but the message you read sticks with you all day. There are two corresponding Bible passages and two non-Biblical perspectives on each topic. It's very readable, too. I would recommend buying at least two copies, because as I read it, I keep thinking of other people who would really benefit from receiving a copy (and I want to keep mine so I can read it over and over!).

Really loving this devotional. I don't think I would care for it as much in paperback, but with my kindle fire it is totally interactive with links to additional thoughts and information on each of the daily topics from the author's blog. Really good!

I am using this book as part of my daily devotional time. The insights are thought provoking and I appreciate both the quotes and Bible verses at the end of each section that relate to the topic. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a new devotional to start the new year.

This book was a bit of a challenge to me. Normally I like Randy Alcorn, and don't get me wrong, I did here too, but it still felt off to me somehow. Maybe it's my questioning of some of the pet peeves of Western and American Christianity I don't feel is entirely biblical at times. Note: I mean cultural issues, not theological ones. I am mostly evangelical/Reformed (if I can ever understand the term "Reformed" enough to decide which I am) ;).

The other problem I had was that Alcorn in most of his books is more into theological discussions, while here he was basically giving us short little sermonettes, with very little introspection about any issues. What if someone makes a mistake? What about the nuances of non-doctrinal issues? What if one is struggling. Alcorn seems to communicate a message almost of saying "suck it up and serve God". Not as good by far as his books on Heaven and *If God Is Good*.

Despite the above, I did enjoy the reminders that Alcorn gives readers to serve God, and to think of the future. I think he has hit the nail on the head that we think too much entirely of the here and now, but not nearly enough of our eternal home in Heaven, if we know Christ.

So the above and other reminders are good and edified me muchly, but at the same time, the quality wasn't as good as his other books, so it isn't quite as good as said books. It was a good read with my daily devotions though.

Rating: 3.5 Stars.

This is a quality, short and to the point daily devotional. I do daily Bible readings and this is one of my devotionals.
If you've read Heaven, you'll like this. There are very few reliable, scriptural teachers anymore what with all the "new" movements in the church, but Randy is steadfast and true to God's Word, as always.

The devotional is exactly what the title says..."Daily Dose". I use it in conjunction with my Bible read through because it capsulizes eternal truths that helps me meditate on what really lasts. If heaven is our real home, it makes sense that eternity is what we want our minds to be focused on. Highly recommend it.
