Each day hones in on two to three key Scriptures on the topic; two to three great quotes from people like Spurgeon, Chambers, Lewis, Piper, Ryle, Sproul, Tozer and Luther; and focuses on the hope and joy that we have in our promises from the God who holds the future in His hands for our good and His glory. Alcorn's insights from the Scriptures are clear, cogent, profound, and practical. This book makes a great gift for graduates, birthday's, anniversaries, the elderly, and any disciple of Christ who needs comfort and encouragement for the ups and downs of life. We all need to reminded of the hope that we have in Christ. I highly recommend this excellent compilation of Alcorn's finest thoughts on Heaven and living for eternity.
To be quite honest i downloaded the kindle version because it was being offered for free, not expecting much of this book.
For my surprise, I can honestly say it was one of the best books I have ever read.
This is a 60 day devotional, and I finished it in one day, simply couldn't stop.
Thank you Randy Alcom for this awesome book.
The other problem I had was that Alcorn in most of his books is more into theological discussions, while here he was basically giving us short little sermonettes, with very little introspection about any issues. What if someone makes a mistake? What about the nuances of non-doctrinal issues? What if one is struggling. Alcorn seems to communicate a message almost of saying "suck it up and serve God". Not as good by far as his books on Heaven and *If God Is Good*.
Despite the above, I did enjoy the reminders that Alcorn gives readers to serve God, and to think of the future. I think he has hit the nail on the head that we think too much entirely of the here and now, but not nearly enough of our eternal home in Heaven, if we know Christ.
So the above and other reminders are good and edified me muchly, but at the same time, the quality wasn't as good as his other books, so it isn't quite as good as said books. It was a good read with my daily devotions though.
Rating: 3.5 Stars.
If you've read Heaven, you'll like this. There are very few reliable, scriptural teachers anymore what with all the "new" movements in the church, but Randy is steadfast and true to God's Word, as always.
