Havok just wants someone to see her as other than her mother's daughter but she can't free herself from her mother's grip,at least not yet.She may be 18 but she's still in high school and has no other place to go,her only hope is to get accepted into college. But being as stubborn as she is and narcissistic as she says she is,she can't see that escape from the life she loathes and accepts as what it is has been there right in front of her.
Fade has made a name for himself in the radio world that has followed him into the real world. Convinced he'll never find a girl who wants to know the real him instead the radio version of him,Cal settle for a friendship with a girl who intrigues him abut keeps him at arms length. All he wants to do is get to know the real her. Havok let's little buts of her life slip into there conversations but quickly shuts down after that. Unbeknownst to him,he actually knows more than he realizes. But by the time he puts the pieces together it may be to late to say any resemblances of a relationship, including friendship.
Tired of all the petty people complaining about their lives taking for grant it what they really have,Jocelyn calls in to Fade's show giving everyone a new perspective of how some people really live and it's not in some foreign place no it's right under their noses in their own town. Fade's mind is now clouded by two girls who plague him.One he knows her deepest darkest secrets but not her face and one he sees but no nearly nothing of her.
It all collides in a heart stopping conclusion that'll have you on the edge. When Havok disappears Cal will move Heaven and Hell to find her but what he finds may be more than either of them expected.
My favorite quotes:
"I opened the apartment door a crack to see if it was hot or cold outside. There was no use in listening to the weather when you lived in South Louisiana. You just got up in the morning and stuck your head out of the door, it was the best policy." ~Fade
"She could never be a pink lady—‘ she was too pure to be pink.’ Gotta love some Rizzo. Ok, ok, pay attention— she might sneak a halfway decent question your way." ~Havok
This is a fantastic read. Havok & Fade are two amazing characters that I loved reading about. Havok has has a crap life and no one but her best friend, Ali, knows and Ali doesn't know everything until one night she decides to call Fade the late night show DJ. She has had a crush on the voice on the radio forever and since he doesn't know her she opens up to him and the listeners. Havok also meets Cal the man at the bakery. She wont tell her secrets but she does like Cal.
Cal meets Havok and can't forget her since that night. He has to know her, spend time with her, even if it is just friends. Havok isn't the only girl on his mind lately. His radio alter ego Fade has met this girl that he must find and help, Jocelyn, he needs go help her and get her safe.
What happens when Havok & Cal find out Havok is Jocelyn and Cal is Fade? Havok wanted this part of her life to stay as far away from Cal as possible. Cal wanted Havok to like his not his radio persona. is it all ruined when the truth comes our? Can the relationship be saved after one fines out and keeps it a secret or is the secret too much, a relationship's foundation is trust right?
Now, where to begin? Lila Felix is an AMAZING author. She writes amazing characters that you just fall instantly in love with. In the case of this novel it is Havok and Fade. I loved theme instantly. This book held my interest throughout the whole book. It has a sad story in a sense, but at the same time it is a heartwarming story. Havok has had a really hard life and all she wants is a friend who loves her for her, and not for what they know of her life. She does not see at first that she has that all along with her best friend Ali. Havok listens to a radio show hosted by Fade, she starts to call in to his show for someone to talk to about her problems, calling herself Joceyln. At the same time she runs in to Cal and finds a friend in him not realizing he is Fade. After a phone call from Jocelyn during one of his shows, Fade realizes that Jocelyn and Havok are one in the same. I loved seeing how he struggled with knowing the truth and telling Havok he knew. He loved her so much, he did not want to hurt her. Once he finally tells her she is shocked and says she needs time to process it. After she leaves his apartment she ends up in danger. Havok survives her ordeal to learn she has had what she wanted all along - a family and people who care for her, through her friend Ali and her family, her school counselor and of course Fade. This book has a beautiful heartwarming ending. I just loved it.
Thank you again Lila for an Amazing 5 Star book!
