There is a whole lotta love in this book. There's an accident, someone who fled the scene, an evil wife, an endearing father and a VERY ugly cry moment (Yes, that's what I said, so be prepared with a tissue or two) I LOVED the 'math game'...this particular chapter had me giggling and wondering how the heck the author came up with this. Very original idea and a fun spin on a party.
This series is a love story, but has so many more layers to it. It's about learning to love yourself before you can love someone else. Learning how to let go, how to move on, how to forgive, how to say I'm sorry and how to trust your gut. The title of this book is spot on. I'm now on to book three, Seeking Hope.
After reading Seeking Love, I tore into Seeking Redemption. Jessica and Matthew's love story is so beautiful -- emotional, riveting, and at times, gut-wrenching. Jessica fought with her depression in book 1, fell in love with Matthew, and in book 2, we're seeing her overcome the pull of that dark place of the past as the story unfolds and secrets are revealed. With the strength of Matthew's support, love and persistence, they do succeed -- no spoiler here, it's a romance, so you can expect an HEA ;) -- if not, I would've been a very unhappy camper while I waited for book 3!
The writing is beautiful, as is their story. If you want a sigh-inducing, lose yourself in the romance, distraction from the everyday, you'll love this book. I only gave it a 4.5 stars because I tend to love stories with more tension, but I wouldn't say it suffered for the lack of it. If you like Kristen Ashley's Wild Man, you'll love this book. It has the same feel...the H/h are together, and now you see how they're making it work, struggling with the obstacles, learning to depend on each other, fighting for their HEA.
Can't wait to read book 3! I'd highly recommend starting with Book 1 - Seeking Love.
Jessica Matthew’s life is perfect. She loves her job as an ICU nurse, has a solid marriage, and a plans to show the ultrasound of their baby to her husband that night. The day is marred when she loses a patient. It’s ruined when a woman strides up to the nurses’ station and plunks down an ultrasound of her own, announcing Jessica’s husband is the father and she means to have him for herself. And Jessica’s life is ruined when she loses their baby the day the divorce becomes final. She’s sure she’ll never trust or love a man again.
Enter Dr. Matthew Moi. He falls in love with Jessica when she slams a softball past him in an intra-hospital game. He decides he has to meet her, but when he learns her story, he knows she needs time to heal. Until his sister, who has a rare condition that causes random brain-bleeds needs surgery and is admitted to ICU. Dr. Moi requests Nurse Matthews to be on his sister’s team. Jessica doesn’t recognize the second baseman from the long-distant game. She just knows her patient’s flirtatious visitor brings out feelings she’d long ago buried.
Jessica and Matthew’s story is rich and complex, with a cast of supporting characters who are as deeply drawn as the two main ones. There are Matthew’s partners in his sex-therapy practice, a set of triplets who can give the Weasley twins a run for their money in playful pranks (but with a sexual twist), Jessica’s best friend and fellow ICU nurse, Matthew’s sister, a womanizing brain surgeon, a musician neighbor, Jessica’s father, and of course her ex. The plot is full of twists and turns with an ending that completely blindsided me.
While I hate cliff-hanger endings, Ms. Maurer at least warns her readers that Seeking Love, the first book in the Escaping from Darkness trilogy has one. Seeking Redemption, however, can stand alone, as can Seeking Hope. On the other hand, each book flows seamlessly into the next. So I can forgive the first cliff-hanger and give the entire series five roses. I highly recommend you carve out enough time to read all three books at once. It’s a page-burning story.
