Water resistance is always advantageous, but the design of this makes it even more than just water resistant because it has a flap that covers the top opening, it's not just zippers stopping the water from entering it's actually a flap, that contains two pockets, making it significantly more water resistant up towards a waterproofing the main compartment.
The waterproof pocket is also a nice feature in this day of high-tech devices.
The fact that it folds into a convenient compact carrying case facilitates easy packing in an other luggage when traveling.
It's not flashy but aesthetically pleasing.
The side pockets will hold a skinnier water bottle as they don't open too wide, but they are good for other items that you don't want to lose but are easy to put in and take out. And it has a hydration bladder compartment.
