If truth be told, being a huge fan of the original Dungeon Siege, I was more eager to play SPACE SIEGE than any other game this summer. Hyped as the next creation of Chris Taylor and Gas Powered Games (both of DS fame), this was supposed to be the space age answer to the upcoming Diablo III. Well, all hell broke loose, that's for sure...

The story is tissue thin but this would not have been a real problem (after all, DS with its "simple peasant rising to the challenge to save the land" story was hardly...Shakespeare), if the game were to give immersion a chance. It does not. One never forgets that he is playing a video game. And the moment he might be caught in the action, the awkward controls will bring him back. I haven't seen such bad camera placement and panning ever since Neverwinter Nights 2.

Graphics is where SS shines: creative and clear details everywhere. Environmental design is not: after a short while the next corridor looks exactly like all the previous ones. And gives off the feeling of running in circles.

The game sounds are nothing to brag about either. The explosions and weapon discharges are well done, whereas the background music is good but nowhere near DS standards (I still use THAT theme as a ringtone).

There is no looting fun either. Dead enemies drop generic components which can be used to buy (equally generic) upgrades.

game looked great from intro movie, but that's the farthest I've gotten and never was I able to play it. After the intro movie, game display becomes choppy, blurry, boxy, that only thing you hear is sounds. Tried configuring display option, my driver is up to date, enabled/diabled crossfire for my Ati HD 5770, nothing works. This is all I see : [...]
Sega offer no support what-so-ever. No patches and there is a reason why this game is only $3.50
Skip it unless you don't mind wasting money.

Set aboard a space ship over-run with aliens. You, with the help of a trusty robot assistant, go around the ship undertaking tasks and blasting aliens. So far so good, but there is where it all falls down. While this is quite good to look at, it is very very dull, and while it tries to be innovative but ends up being a top down shooter with some RPG elements. You can upgrade your weapons from the bits you bit around or that are dropped by the aliens you slaughter and you can upgrade yourself into some sort of cybernaut. It should mean something but it doesn't. What actually happens is rather tedious and the game lacks any level of tension or challenge. You follow your missions, you kill aliens, you die occasionally but then you regenerate a little way back and carry on. Dull, dull, dull.
Reminded me a lot of Shadowgrounds which was better and didn't pretend to be something it wasn't.
Probably best avoided or waiting until you can get it for a budget price (trust me, it won't be long!)

This game seems to be trying to be a hybrid of Doom's FPS nature and Diablo's RPG qualities, but set in space. It seems like it's got some promise, except that it isn't much fun once you blast your way through the first couple of stages.

There's nothing to really look forward to as you progress - not much in the way of weapons, upgrades, or anything that's particularly exciting. Sure, you might find an assault rifle, but it works exactly the same as your other guns, and you might be in the Life support module of the ship rather than the Crew Quarters, but really, all there is to tell you the difference is a slightly different set of enemies, and maybe one different background object to look at. There is no loot - you grab parts that help you upgrade yourself, your guns, your little robot companion, and which also allow you to make useful stuff like grenades and med packs. It's an OK system, but there should be more - I should have to find SOMETHING other than parts, be it ammo, or other types of armor and weapons lying around - because at the end of the day, that kind of customization is essential to a game like this.

Upgrading your character seems to be the ideal place for a game like this to thrive - I mean, Diablo was really just about creating the most buffed out character you could make, but in this, you won't notice any of the character upgrades you're purchasing doing much for you. What does it really mean that my "attack rating" goes up 4 points? It doesn't seem to mean that my guns do any more damage, and your character is automatically laser accurate as is.

The game can seriously be finished in 10 hours or less. There's no challenge, no big twists and the ending is a joke.

Words just fail to describe how crappy this is. There's no replayability in it either, cuz in the end, it doesn't matter if you're a cyborg or a full human; wether you join Pilot or fight against him: cuz the end encounters are exactly the same.

Extremely disappointed in this game. Wait for a few months when the game is $20 bucks; then it might be worth it.
