First, what I can say is that its probably my favorite game system of all time! Even if I didn't live back in the Genesis days, the games are awesome! I have Sonic 1 and 2, as well as Streets of Rage 1 and 2. I've been playing a lot of these games over the years with an emulator and I decided I wanted to play the real thing. Actually I find it better to play these games on the real thing rather then using an emulator. The games just seem more fun to play on the original controllers and hardware, rather then playing on a keyboard or a ps2 knockoff pc controller. There where also 2 add-ons released for the Genesis, but this review is not focusing on them. This console is the best video game system ever made in my opinion!!!

EDIT, about the best quality thing Use a CRT with at least s video, mod your genesis for s video and mod it for better sound as shown in these links

The reason I changed my mind about rgb is because, it cost more to do, plus s video is close to rgb as long as you use a good cable.

Pros and Cons

+Very good system and inexpensive.

+Games are inexpensive, and there's lots of games to chose from.

+If you can afford it, you can get a flash cart called the Everdrive MD or the Mega Everdrive, and you can play roms that you downloaded to an sd card using original hardware, no emulation involved!

+You can get RGB natively from the AV Port by using an rgb scart cable with a scart to component video transcoder, even though modding it for s video is cheaper if you mod it your self, and is close to rgb.

+Works as good as it did back in the day, as I can imagine.

- It can be expensive to get the cables, controllers and power supply, mainly cuz they cost around how much the console does.

Childhood memories with great customer service!!

A couple of months ago, I was browsing old You Tube clips when I came across someone playing the Sega Genesis. It was my very first game console, the one that made me the gamer I was today. I had to have it back. I gave my first one to a family relative about eight years ago, thinking I was done with it and the urge to play would never return, boy was I wrong. I picked up a used one, but it was slightly broken so I looked on Amazon for a replacement console (since the other one had all the wiring already) It was the first time had bought anything from Amazon's separate sellers so of course, I was skeptical. LevlUPGaming caught my eye and I was able to contact them over the phone, told them I was interested in purchasing a console to replace the broken one. They were kind enough to keep in contact with me and send me a picture of a console that had barely any cosmetic damages (a few scuff marks in the back but the top of it looked impressive}. Shipping only took a weekend which was great since this came across the country and was suppose to come in 2 weeks later. (let me also add, this was a lot better looking then my pervious used console) Everything is in perfect order for a 25 year old system. The head jack works, the reset button works and the game plays great with just an AV hookup. Of course, sometimes games don't want to work right away so it takes a few times of taking it out and putting it back in, however, that's to be expect of a console that is a quarter decade old.

I am more than satisfied with my Sega Genesis, the customer service of LevlUpGaming, and the feeling of reliving some old memories from my childhood.

The sega ran a little slow when me and my brother played some 2 player sonic but that only happened a little bit and briefly. One player was no problem. Even so, for the price and the nostalgia it was way worth it. I play it more than my brother who is more of a collector. Great deal, arrived quickly and I had no issues with packaging or anything.

This is the system that changed the face of gaming forever. With an arcade board on deck, Sega was able to transfer direct ports of games like Altered Beast, Golden Axe, and many others.

This is the first gaming machine I ever owned and it lasted me until the Nintendo 64 and even then I still played it. I play it to this day in fact. This is the ultimate 16 bit machine and the competition was left in the dust trying to keep up with "Blast Processing". After the Killer app, Sonic the Hedgehog, was released there was no stopping Sega in the fight for the 16 bit market share.

As for my personal history with the system. I've owned and loved it. As I said before, I play it to this day. This is the machine that made me the gamer I am today. Games like Gunstar Heroes, Sub Terrania, Road Rash, and Mega Bomber man, to name a few, are responsible for an enjoyable childhood. I want to thank Sega for an awesome childhood.

Model 1 (this one) is the best model to get

This is my favorite model of the sega genesis because it has the headphone jack and volume slider on the front. If you plug one of those red and white audio cables to the headphone jack and the other end to the matching colors on your tv you get stereo sound also make sure you have a model 1 av cable you will only use the yellow part for picture anyway this gives you the best sound you can get from a model one. There are so many excellent games on this system. I already have a lot of the classics like the sonic and streets of rage games on the genesis collection disc for ps3 so I got one of these to play great 3rd party titles like alladin, tmnt hyperstone heist, batman, the adventures of bat man and robin, x men 2, jungle book and mickey mania just to name a few I have had so much fun playing these games again it brought back so many memories. I never had the model 1 till now I once had the model 2 but this one is my favorite I'm glad I went with model 1 this time.
