I'm a strong believer in screen protectors, even if your device makes use of materials like Gorilla Glass or the like. As it is, my son and I both have Galaxy Nexuses (Nexii?), which lack Corning's harder glass. Anyway, over the course of several different phones, I've become a veteran of several screen protector applications of various brands, both wet and dry applications. I always make sure my screens are skin oil-free first, then dust-free; I even use the tried-and-true "apply in the bathroom after running the how shower" trick to minimize dust further. My point of establishing all of that - I'm aware of the proper way to prep for application, and I did that here.
Now, in fairness, this screen protector went on reasonably well on both phones. Air bubbles were as easy to remove as I've ever seen. Because the screen protector is cut a great deal smaller than the phone, perhaps slightly more placement work was needed than normal (for GNex dry-application protectors, it is common for them to be smaller than the device face, but these had more gap than any brand I've used by far).
My problems with these protectors began almost immediately. In a nutshell, they simply don't stick! When I use my phone to watch a show on Netflix, for instance, or any activity in which my phone gets warm, the edges "peel up." They don't curl, but they clearly aren't adhering either. I can press on the edges, and they'll grip (for lack of a better term), but whenever I use the display for any length of time, the edges come right back up. It has happened on both of my phones, so it would appear to be a systemic problem.
While the feel and protection offered by these are good, I can't recommend them at all because of the awful appearance of the "peeling" edges. I expected better from Seidio.
I am not disappointed at all. It is in fact crystal clear, the only time I actually know its there is when I am in direct sunlight, but to be honest, I don't think ANY screen protector could fool you in direct sunlight. Outside of that I do not know it is there. No matte, no glare, no orange peel, nothing. Very nice screen protector.
Installation was ridiculously easy. Some people may fret and complain about the fact that it is not a "perfect fit" size for the phone, it leaves around 2-3mm of space around all of the edges. But that doesn't bother me. After I thought about it, its protecting the parts that you touch the most, and I had almost decided against even getting a screen protector anyway, so it just doesn't bother me, but I could see how it bothers some. I must say though, the fact that it is smaller does make it REALLY easy to get on.
If there are any concerns about smudging and fingerprints and the like, I dont notice that its any better or worse than the normal screen, especially after the first day.
I initially started the review having given it 4 stars because of it being slightly smaller, but the more I thought about it, the more I feel it should just have 5.
The fit is smaller than the frame, but i think this works out better, as it leaves room for the rubber to wrap around on the Otterbox Commuter case i just bought.
You get 2, and a pretty quality cleaning cloth. after battling dust for about 15 minutes, got a perfect lay down, with no fuss.
