Great no frills player. Key selling point for me is the ability to make it Region Free for DVD and being able to switch Blu-ray regions with the remote hack (when player is on home screen press set-up on remote then key in 8520, set DVD to 0 for all region DVD, on Blu-ray setting 1 is US, 2 Europe).

I can't believe you can make it region free for both DVD and BluRay.
This thing doesn't have any apps. So it may not be for everyone. But for those of you who already have a media streamer like a Roku or Nexus Player this won't be a problem.
As a result of no apps, I like how it doesn't have a cluttered menu. It just shows the company logo like how old DVD players did it. You pop the disc in and it starts up right away. It couldn't be more quick and simple.
The best thing about this player is the region free feature. When the player is in the home screen with the company logo press the set up button and enter 8520. Than a region menu will appear where you can enter 0 for automatic region Free DVD and or change the Bluray region setting to 1 for US/CAN, 2 Europe, and 4 Asia.
My buttons didn't light up blue like in the picture. It was white instead and I prefer it that way. I attached a photo to illustrate.

I read about this blu ray player in "Sound and Vision" magazine several months ago and was excited by the possibility of owning a 4K blu ray player with Technicolor certification -- for just $100! After checking at Amazon from time to time over the succeeding months, I finally found the player available in January 2015 -- though selling for $130. I checked around and purchased it from Sears.com for $90.

The set-up was very easy. I simply unplugged the coaxial digital audio cable and the HDMI cable from the back of my old Samsung blu-ray and plugged them into the Seiki player. The full list of inputs is: HDMI, LAN, USB, Coaxial Digital Audio, a stereo pair of RCA audio inputs, and CVBS (yellow RCA video -- why would anyone buy a blu-ray player and use this feeble connection? I wish it had S-Video instead).

I've tried four different blu-ray discs, a DVD-RW, two DVD-Rs, and a DVD and they all played without a hitch and look fabulous. (The manual lists BD, DVD, DVD-R/+R, DVD-RW/+RW, VCD, CD-R, and CD-RW as all compatible, by the way.) I haven't fiddled much with the settings on the Seiki yet -- the user can adjust resolution, t.v. system (NTSC / PAL / Multi), color space, sharpness, video mode, and video noise reduction, among various other things.

The remote control is so-so. There are a lot of buttons and they are pretty small (and I have small hands). It took me a few seconds to find the play/pause button! Still, it's a serviceable remote and I hope to incorporate its functions into my universal remote.

The player itself is attractively sleek and modern looking, with its gently curved surface and its three large buttons (open/close, play/pause, and power). This elegant design does make stacking other components on the Seiki a bit tricky.Read more ›

First let me start off by saying that I never buy B,C, list Electronics brand's , I was reading this article in Sound &Vision magazine, The story was raving about the Seiki 4k blu ray player reviews, so I purchased a unit,I was blown away, how great the video processing up converting was , the colors excellent, perfect for DVD library. You can adjust this seiki player to show DVD clear as a blu ray disc..... 5 stars performance Seiki in taking a page from Samsung book. Watch out.

This thing is wonderful. Got rid of all the "jaggies" on regular dvd's on our 80 inch TV. Much better picture with regular DVD's than my sony which cost 3 times as much. Very happy with this player.

All I have done is set this up and test it with 2 different DVDs. But here's the deal, I simply plugged it in and it worked. Just like that. It is not bloated with a bunch of software/hardware I don't need. Since I have spent the day struggling to get the rest of my new devices working (roku stick, netgear modem) plugging this thing in and having it working in 10 seconds was really nice. If it stops working well after I use it regularly, I will come back and change my rating. But it felt too good to have something work instantly not to give it a thumbs up.

Update: I am still a fan of this player, but on 2 occasions (once when it didn't like the DVD and the other time I'm not sure why) I have had to power cycle it which means pulling the plug! This is a terrible software design and very frustrating. But it worked perfectly as soon as it rebooted so I am still going to give it a fair review.

This is a nice bluray player. Way better than I expected. The main reason I bought it was for the region free unlock feature. It works perfect too. I’ve tested some German blurays and UK dvds and even movies from Australia. All loaded fine and looked really clear too. This player makes dvds look very good. The upscaling is top notch, the dvds look like HD movies now. I’ve had other bluray players in the past, the dvds looked pretty good upscaled on them. On this Seiki though, they look amazing. There are tons of features too in the settings for video options. My only complaints are the remote feels cheap and the power cord is very short. Other than that, I would definitely recommend this player.
