CASE: The 43.5 mm case worried me at first, but after putting it on my wrist, it fits comfortably. It feels about the same as my trusty SKX007. The height of the case actually feels a little smaller than the SKX007.
BRACELET: The bracelet has brushed edges and polished center links. In general, I like this look for this watch. It dresses it up nicely. I plan to mainly have it worn with the bracelet. And when I need a strap change, the drilled lugs make for a quick and effortless switch. The 20 mm lug width lends itself well to many strap options.
BEZEL: Good action on a 120 click bezel. No backplay noted.
DIAL: Gorgeous, dark blue dial, which pairs beautifully with the stark white indices and red accents on the crown, the minute hand, and the tip of the second hand. Of note, the date window appears to have a slightly darker background, and may even be black. From a distance, it looks fine. I find it better than having a white date window.
CRYSTAL: Seiko hardlex. Nothing fancy. And really a sapphire crystal would have been nice, but it should be fine for this watch. Some will not like the cyclops, but I find it okay here. With careful effort, it can probably be removed. I won't try that one this one though.
MOVEMENT: Solar quartz with a long power reserve. Again, easy to pick up and run with. No maintenance needed.
There's a good chance that this watch will get more wrist time than I'm anticipating. Fantastic option here!
Great watch that will provide a long timekeeping life.
No sweeping second-hand, waaaa. But this is a solid-feeling, attractive, accurate time-keeping, easy-to read, watch. Honestly, most people won't know the difference between this and a Rolex, anyway.
I ultimately purchased the watch via Amazon US, because the prices were so much cheaper, even with import taxes and delivery costs.
First impressions were that the watch is huge and heavy. Even though I knew the dimensions it was physically massive, both diameter and depth were far bigger than other watches I own and took a full week to get used to the scale of it on the wrist! That said, once I got used to leaving shirt buttons undone etc, I bought a Seiko-style silicon rubber strap in matching blue (from Amazon UK this time) and found this to be lighter and more comfortable for casual wear. I am still conscious of it's size but I'm happy with the quality and styling and although I'm not a diver as such, it's reassuring to know that it's completely waterproof should I forget to remove it when bathing etc.
Positives: Attractive and sensible design and a change from the traditional black and silver styling.
Quality build, well finished and functional.
Excellent value for money, compared to Swiss models and it's manufactured in-house.
Negatives: Think twice before committing - this really is a big, bold and heavy watch.
Downside: Seiko might have made the date magnifier 2.5 as opposed to the 2.0. And the polished center link on the bracelet could become a problem if one snorkels in the warmer waters of Florida or Caribbean. It would tend to act as a fishing lure and attract Barracuda. Diving at depths would pose no problems.
