I owned a Seiko day - date automatic from September 1977 until December 1999. In all the time I had this watch, I never bought it to a jewelry store for maintenance. I loved that watch and when I saw that the Seiko 5 series came out with essentially the same features as my old Seiko, I was thrilled.
This watch keeps excellent time for an automatic (it gains about 3 seconds per day) and it looks great on the wrist. The size is excellent, not at all cumbersome.
I wear this watch in the evenings after work and on weekends. It generally does not need to be rewound if it is worn in this manner. As a precaution, I usually shake my wrist for about 30 seconds every time I put it on and take it off and also before bed. I have not had to reset the watch since I started doing this.
All in all, a great value for the money (I paid $75 for the watch). Since the watch does not have any batteries to change, I anticipate not having to do any maintenance at all on the watch. I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a sharp looking timepiece at a very reasonable price.
