Three words…startling – epic – romance! This is an epic love story that tests the wills of Samuel and Rebecca, challenges their love, duty to family and willingness to forgive. Most importantly, they learn what it is to hope in the face of tragic circumstances and uncomfortable surroundings.
Developed historical descriptions (check) …beautiful scenic detail (check) …and then there is the love story. Whew, this was an emotional story and down right nerve-wrecking at times. Just when I thought I had the emotional nuances of this book figured out the storyline threw me for another loop. Caulfield definitely kept me on my toes and knocked me off my feet at a few key points during the novel. I rarely experience those, “I didn’t see that coming…” moments when reading. In this case, I read each page in nervous anticipation, unsure of whether or not Rebecca and Samuel’s love would be realized and if it was realized whether it would survive. Her writing kept me in limbo between expecting the worst and praying for the best, not knowing which one would meet me on the next page.
I truly enjoyed this read and I think that many of you will love this page-turner as well.

Rebecca is growing up in an isolated environment dreaming of more. It's a time in history just prior to the great war which will change everything for Rebecca and those she loves. This is a love story about what lies concealed, and how the unspoken can cause pain and stifle love. As much a story about a time in history as Rebecca's own story, Seldom Come By follows Rebecca's journey to reveal more than the tip of the iceberg. Great characters with depth and a moving story that kept me enthralled.
