Editorial Reviews

Ark of The Covenant came out swinging in 2011 with their debut EP "Separation" on Strike First Records. They returned to Silver Bullet Studios with Gregory Thomas of Misery Signals to record their full length "Self Harvest". The band s debut EP garnered much praise and appeared on Best of 2011 lists.

Hopecore said It has EVERYTHING...comparable to Impending Doom and The Acacia Strain, but with a signature sound that sets them apart .

Ark of the Covenant s debut full length Self Harvest will be released on Facedown Records on April 30, 2013 and will be supported with non stop touring including the Facedown Records "Hard & Relentless" tour with labelmates Saving Grace and Those Who Fear which begins at Facedown Fest (Chino, CA) heads across the country to the New England Metal And Hardcore Festival and then loops back around to include most all of the US.

I am quite surprised by the number of albums on Amazon that have no review whatsoever. Well I was searching around for music and came across this heavy and dark toned jewel. I don't normally come out and put my name to stuff, but let me explain. It is very hard for me personally to find something I truly enjoy on a level that goes with my interest in moving, dark, edgy, and all around deep music.

Now I understand my tastes don't match everyone's by a long shot, but if you have a ear for what I'm talking about then get this album. I suggest it more for metal fans or those with darker tones constantly playing in their head.

With powerhouse bands such as For Today leaving the label and others such as In the Midst of Lions (RIP) and A Plea For Purging (RIP) calling it quits, Facedown Records looked as if its overall catalogue would certainly be diminished going into 2013. I mean, how could it not be? Who could possibly fill the shoes of such epic and inspiring bands? Thankfully, with extraordinary releases from Fallstar, Hope for the Dying, and Those Who Fear paving the way towards new heights in metal, fears of Facedown’s decline have been all but decimated. Now, having elevated Ark of the Covenant from their imprint StrikeFirst, Facedown is just showing off.
Ark of the Covenant bursts into their new role in the Facedown family with clenched fists swinging and immediately prove their place amongst giants with Self Harvest. Part atmospheric experience (though much less so than Hope for the Dying’s recent masterpiece), part brutal assault, part polemical raging, Ark of the Covenant bring a metal album to the table that is more than worthy of being mentioned in the same breath as some of Facedown’s elite.
As they say on the song “Transgressors,” Ark of the Covenant “are here to speak for the silent.” This theme is apt to describe the lyrical and spiritual content of the album. From “Parasite” to “Transgressors” and from “Blind Man” to “Fakes” AOC is polemical to a fault. For those confused on the term, a polemic is a reasoned defense of a faith from within to others within. As such, many of the lyrical beatings are directed at those who mar the name of Christ with half-hearted devotion and those who simply claim the name “Christian” without understanding the “die to yourself” nature of following Christ.

I've been a fan of Ark Of The Covenant since their Separation EP back in 2011, and they have easily become one of my favorite bands with the release of Self Harvest. Each song sounds different but still feels like an Ark Of The Covenant song. The guitars and bass are extremely heavy and the vocals are top notch. I also love the Christian lyrics and the message throughout the album. Be sure to pick this up if you enjoy heavy music!

I love the mix between what sounds like Metalcore and Deathcore, I really enjoyed this album haven't really heard something this unique before, and can't wait to purchase more albums from this band.

Mostly what bothers me is the muddy guitar tones. Doesn't cut through for the style they play. The music itself is ok
