I don't have the words to adequately describe how wonderfully this book is written. I could almost smell the scent of roses and taste the salt in the air while reading, and I felt like I was transported to a windswept Irish island.
I have to admit that although I enjoy a good romance, I am not usually a fan of fairy tale-style romances; however there are 2 authors of this genre whose books I love. Sophie is one of them. It is perhaps her writing that attracts me more than anything - there is just something about it... Sophie's writing is poetic and it completely and utterly captivates me. The Selkie Enchantress is an absolute pleasure to read.
Ms. Moss already won me over as a fan with her first installment in this series, but her sequel far exceeded my expectations. I can’t wait to read the next book Selkie Sorceress.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if Ms. Moss becomes a phenomenon--her talent and depth appear boundless, and she only gets better and better with each book.
One thing I will say again and again about Ms. Moss' writing style: I LOVE how she doesn't bend down to tactics used in other romance novels, to write something seen as titillating at the sake of society's viewpoint of women. She creates strong and masculine male love interests who don't bully their women, push them around, or take advantage of them. Anyone who disrespects women is seen as an antagonist, such as the abusive husband in the Selkie Spell.
It just makes me wonder... so many romance novels are written by women, and most women I know would like to see better treatment of women... is it so hard to portray that in their fiction? Sophie Moss did. She's proved twice, so far, that you can create a strong and respectful man, and a strong and independent woman, and still keep a steamy romance plot.
The first book was great and this one was even better. While reading The Selkie Spell I wondered if Liam would get his own story and was SO happy he did. The Selkie Enchantress is complex and mysterious. The characters are rich and well written, even the children. Sophie Moss made me care about each one, even the villain. This paranormal romance has a nontraditional subject and mythology and is a nice breath of fresh sea air.
