Format: Spiral-bound
I found this short little spiral-bound booklet to be a nice primer on how to sell your business and not leave much on the table. At some point the book lists the following Ten Steps you must be aware of:

1. Establish a baseline valuation
2. Select your selling team
3. Prepare your business for the sale
4. Indentify prospective buyers
5. Spark a bidding war
6. Negotiate effectively
7. Consider different deal structures
8. Prepare for due diligence
9. Understand the close
10. Sell through the roof

I won't say the book does much more than provide an overview. It is well organized and well written. But it did not go into enough depth on some key topics. For one, Chapter 1 on business valuations was cursory. There should have been at least a chapter on each of the three major ways to establish a company's value: economic, comparable, and emotional. Instead we got a page or two on each. Notice that "valuation" is Step 1 in the list above.

Chapter 8 was lacking, too. It covered Due Diligence. A whole book could be written on that subject alone. And that subject is so important when it comes to buying and selling a business. Notice that DD is Step 8 in the list above. 4 stars!
