It's hard to decide what genre The Selling falls into- there are elements of comedy, horror, sci-fi, and drama... but by the time the opening credits have finished, you know you are in for a great ride.

With humble nods to films such as The Amityville Horror, The Shining, and Poltergeist, there are very real moments of suspense and tension. Yet given the comedic roots of the cast and crew, it's no surprise that the audience burst into laughter throughout the film. A healthy mix of improbable situations, physical gags, and one-liners keep the film feeling snappy and smart. Personally, I found the "Sizzler" bit and actor Cole Stratton's exhaustive America's Next Top Model monologue (which was entirely improvised, taking full advantage of Stratton's talent and improv background) to be among the funniest scenes.

Simply put, the cast is superb. Writer/actor Gabe Diani handles the complex and nuanced role of Richard with ease. He reminds me of a young Tom Hanks: charming, intensely likable, slightly awkward but full of promise. Janet Varney is perfect as the beautiful but ethically flexible real estate agent Mary- a character you can never quite decide if you love or hate. Jonathan Klein provides comic relief without ever resorting to stupidity as Dave, and Etta Devine gives Ginger the quirkiness and heart that drive her motivations. Richard's mother, played by Nancy Lenehan, is part June Cleaver and part Betty White, wrapped up in a mom that we all recognize as our own. As a last ditch effort to de-spook the house, we are treated to Barry Bostwick in the role of priest a la The Exorcist. This cameo appearance is not put to waste, as Bostwick absolutely rules the screen.

The script is original, fresh, and clever.

This movie was a scream! And not in a scary way. This movie was not about gore. It has a fun, original plot about a happless soul who is stuck with a haunted house to sell. The movie characters are appealing. The dialog witty and fresh. The well edited pace of the movie keeps it entertaining from beginning to end. While this may not make it to the big screen now, I predict it will become a cult classic.

I can't say how much I enjoyed this movie! I laughed out loud several times, jumped a few times too. The writing is smart and very well paced. I loved how the characters reacted to the insanity happening to them. I kept thinking this sounds like my firends and I if we were caught in a similar situation. This film is funny, smart, terriically shot and i am sooooooo glad I bought this film. Totally worth the dime and totally worth the time.

I happened to watch this trailer online, and then found the movie here. I really don't like horror flicks because they are always so predictable and too cheesy or too gory. This movie was great, in that it has this perfect mix of "horror" and humor. The main character is very quirky and likable, and just tells it like it is. I like how the characters are aware that they are in a horror flick, and respond to it. However, it isn't stupid funny like other parody movies. Very nice overall. Great Indie/Horror/Comedy movie!

This was a fun & funny movie. It took many ghost story cliches & turned them on their head. There are also many inside jokes about other ghost story movies. It was surprisingly endearing & the characters keep your interest.

This is an independent film so a low budget, but it didn't matter as the story & jokes worked well. The plot was strong & there were few slow moments. Recommended if you like ghost movies & laughing.

I love comedies and don't normally enjoy ghost or scary movies, but The Selling sold me on the combination of ghost stories and comedy. The concept was fantastic and the motivation believable, which is a huge plus in an era where characters often act in ways that make no internal sense and destroy the willing suspension of disbelief. The acting was also very entertaining! Barry Bostwick was obviously a highlight, but all of the actors were fantastic, especially the mom. I thought this was a funny, original idea and I would highly recommend it!

I saw this at a film festival not too long ago. I wasn't sure what to expect with a film with such a low budget. What I saw (and the audience) was a really well put together film with fantastic performances from all the actors, a sharply written script and great special effects. I was surprised how funny parts were in this film, with the physical comedy and pop culture references throughout. As someone who goes to a lot of film festival screenings, this one is worth checking out.

I loved this movie! I happened to catch it on cable and loved it so much I had to buy it to share with my friends. I thought it was great how the movie draws you in from the very first scream and keeps you entertained until the very end. It is not really scary or gory, like a typical horror movie, but is really a very well written low budget comedy. I highly recommend it.
