The pressure they exert on your ears gets annoying after a while, but that's pretty much the problem with every over-ear headphone. The noise cancelation is pretty good though--I find myself using much lower volumes than I did before. For more comfort, you can replace the ear pads with Senal Velour Earpads (Pair), or Senal Genuine Sheepskin Leather Earpads (Pair). I haven't tested these out yet, so I cannot comment on them.
I bought these over Sony MDR7506 Professional Large Diaphragm Headphone because the cord is detachable--which is very useful when you want to fit all your gear into one bag. There's a 3' straight cable, and a 10' coiled cable (around 6' when not stretched). To attach the cable, plug it into the left side of the headphone and twist, there's a plastic tip on the end that secures it to your headphone. It also stays in if you don't twist. The downside is that the plug is a 2.5mm jack (pretty sure it is anyway, no information on the Senal site). It may be hard to find a generic 2.5mm male to 3.5mm male coiled cable if you lose yours.
The headphones seem to made of aluminum, but I'm not sure if they're painted black, or if they are anodized. There are areas where the headphone's metal can clank against each other and potentially take the paint off. I placed a little gaffers tape in those areas to prevent that.
The cushion on top is comfortable and the stitching seems fine. It's very clear that these are modeled after the Sony MDR7506 because they have the words, "STUDIO MONITOR," written on them (apparently it's EQ curve is similar too).
They don't come with a case, which is somewhat annoying (I use a thin lens pouch to store mine), it comes with a gold plated screw on 1/4" jack adapter, and it comes with a 3 year warranty.
Not much more to say, I'm sure there are way better headphones out there that are much more expensive, but then again, I read that a lot of audio engineers say they prefer their Sony MDRs. The Senal SMH-1000 have a similar EQ curve and have a detachable cord, so it was a no-brainer for me.
The detachable cord was what made me choose these over the 7506, because my last pair broke at the plug. Fixable, yes, but I soldered and it fell apart again after a week. Not a long term solution.
These gave me the piece of mind that if the cord breaks, I'll be able to continue using cans I spent hard-earned money on. Such a simple concept, probably doesn't add $1 to the manufacture cost, yet it was what convinced me. Oh, and Senal's warranty is 3x longer than Sony's. Take note competitors.
My only big complaint is that the small cable only runs 3 feet. Using these at a computer or something is a huge pain. 3 feet is just too short. 4 feet would have been perfect, but I often find myself having to take these off if I want to lean back in my chair. I could use the other cable, but it is 10 feet long, and so I just end up with a pile of cable sitting next to me.
