From the Manufacturer
Looking as classy as they sound, the Sennheiser CX 880 in-ear headphones offer lifelike sound quality and a custom fit that feels like they were made for your ears. Co-designed with BMW DesignWorksUSA, the CX 880 provides aggressive noise blocking thanks to its close-fitting ergonomic design, which also channels cabling away from your ear.
These ear-canal, noise-isolating headphones use a dynamic speaker and a specially tuned transducer that reproduces a transparent, clear audible image. And you can keep your audio player in your pocket and still control playback volume with the included in-line rotary volume adjuster. The cleaning tool and ear-debris-guards protect your investment, while the included carrying case makes it easy to bring along wherever you roam.

Sound quality does not disappoint. The low-range response is nice and punchy with minimal distortion. Mid-range is clean as well, but the high-end has a touch of flatness to it. Obviously geared for the quality low to mid-range. Volume control is more of a design element than a technical feature... sound distortion is distinct when making adjustments which is disappointing knowing Sennheiser has inline volume controls which work cleanly. Cord noise is minimal during normal "sitting" use. When more active, it's noticeable like any ear canal headphone I've experienced but definitely minimized compared to my old 300's.
Carrying case (with magnetic closure) and accessories are nice and usual high quality from Sennheiser. Standard set of 3 earbud sizes included for customized fit. Design of these has been improved since the earlier model I've been used to. Newer inserts have a more rigid plastic base and more pliable externals allowing a more snug but comfortable fit inside the ear canal with less play.
Given Amazon's excellent return policy I decided to try a set of high-quality earbuds and compare them...I decided on these Sennheiser CX 880s. These earbuds are absolutely amazing. I was hoping my wife couldn't tell the difference so she could keep the Wal-Mart pair and I could bring these to work for myself but no such luck. She likened the sound to listening to music produced by my home theatre...there was no way I was prying them out of her little hands. She is no audiophile by any stretch...these earbuds are just that much better than the "high end of the low end" earbuds in the $30 range...there is simply no comparison. I love these earbuds and will probably end up buying a pair for myself. I'm not sure why I'm surprised...one of these days the cliched "you get what you pay for" may finally sink in.
These earbuds produce deep bass that does not sound like the headphones which claim incredible bass but clearly just use some sort of "bass boost" which sounds terrible...the CX880s produce real, clean bass.
As for the sound isolation, my wife had them cranked while listening to Tool right next to me and I couldn't hear them over a very low-volume TV.
I admittedly have no experience w/other high-end earbuds, but I have little doubt the sound quality of these are better (likely far better) than what you will hear with the best the most big box stores have to offer.
I was really excited to get this headset. I purchased it as a gift and it was delivered in November. As it was a gift, I did not test it. Now I found out that the thing does not work. Ahead of me is a battle to return a stylish $60 paperweight.
The headphones do not work or at least one speaker is broken. Unfortunately for me, I have a pair of ears and thus this product is useless.
Aside from this minor little problem, these buds have many flaws. They do look great, sleek design and all, but the earbuds feel flimsy. I also noticed that the painting on the gear looked suspect and wondered if the seller had shipped me a knockoff. The earbuds seem very very fragile, which could be why one of them was delivered broken. The volume control is a cylinder which you twist to increase and decrease the sound. It is cool, but is pretty flimsy as well.
The shipping case is stylish and will look great when I either dump it in the trash or ship it back.
I would not recommend buying this set.
I forced to recommend an alternative, the pioneer RhP9000 noise canceling earphones are pretty good, with the exception that the ergonomics are poor. Other than that, both my ears can actually hear what is being played.
I was given a full refund from Amazon even though I was beyond the 30 day period so kudos to you people. Actually I wanted to exchange them for another pair just to see if they were any good but they had none.
Excellent customer service.

On a whim I decided to try the medium earbuds.
WOW! I could not believe the difference. LOUD, BASSY, DETAILED SOUND. Other reviews said to try all the buds to see which suited best and it is excellent advice. Believe me these are excellent earphones when you use the correct buds.
I own a pair of Bose noise cancelling headphones which cost £350. I prefer these sennheisers! The sound really is on a par. The build quality is not on a par but these are a LOT cheaper. Build is fine for the price sound is superb for the price.
TRY ALL THE EARBUDS TO FIND THE ONES BEST FOR YOU AS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BUDS IS REMARKABLE!
However, I am about to ask Amazon to replace my REPLACEMENT earphones as this set (and the original set) developed an interferance.... every time I adjust the volume control.
This took several months to develope so, it made me think that my music/PC/Laptop were at fault.
However, checking laptop and PC with another set of headphones made me realise that the Senheisser 'phones were at fault.
Imho, don't buy.
The earplugs fit well and no sound is lost to ensure good all round sound and great bass.
Good sound reproduction on various quality of mp3s.
Although these have a slightly better spec than the 300's I can't honestly say they sound any different. I was hoping to be impressed, as I was when I got my first Sennheiser's, but these are again pretty much the same. The case that comes with it was something I had high hopes for, as this will hopefully protect this pair from an early grave, however I have to agree with the other reviewers that have commented on the hopeless design. The in line volume control makes it pretty much impossible to fit them in the case as shown on the picture that comes with it, however I have managed by placing this part at the back which still protects it inside the outer part of the case. However, this is not well designed and I can understand why others may use a different case if they have one.
Overall, I am pleased with them, although I am not sure if they are worth the extra money. If they last at least 2 years I will be happy, as it's frustating to have to keep replacing them, even if they are under guarantee - especially if you are on a long train journey when they break!! Fingers crossed....I will update if they do break lol :-)
It takes some EQ setting to get them sounding perfect, but when they're set up correctly, they're amazing.
It's great having volume control on the wire too as I can change volume without having to take the iPod from my pocket or take my gloves off.
Plus you can wear these with a hat.
No, no los recomendaría. Creo que hay muchas alternativas mejores, y, posiblemente, por menos dinero.
