Of course a true audiophile would never listen to music through anything other than his/her speakers.
But I digress. Listening to music through the Sennheiser HD 219 headphones brought me back to my audiophile days. Now other audiophiles may call me a heretic But, to me, the Sennheiser HD 219 Headphones brought me closer to the music. This is what audio play back peripheral devices are supposed to do.
The sound quality is clear and crisp. One gets the sense of being in the same room as when the tape was recorded. I know this recording I'm listening to was pan potted. The person at the controls knew what she/he was doing I can hear through these headphones that the " space" between the instruments is clear and gives the sense of the "placement" of the instruments although that might not be the case in reality.
In other words there is depth to the finished product.
The Sennheiser HD 219 is well worth its inexpensive price. I have listened through headphones much, much more expensive to hear only a miniscule difference in quality. My main listening system didn't have a headphone jack or "tone controls".
The system I listened to some music through did. I left the "tone controls flat" and plugged in my expensive headphones. That was some time ago.
With the system I use today the music that came through the Sennheiser HD 219 was everything I could ask for and more. These headphones are highly recommended.
Their weight and comfort cannot be surpassed by any other on-ear device. Yes, in heat they'll make your ear sweat but that's pretty much unavoidable with any on-ear design.
At levels too loud for comfort here is no discernible IM or harmonic distortion on test clips designed to disclose it.
The tonal balance is a bit beefy on the low end but just a bit. Tame that with EQ and they are pretty close to perfect over the rest of the audio band on a broad mix of test and disclosure tracks.
And those are the only meaningful factors. 100% recommended by this experienced tester. At $20 for refurbished I don't think it possible to do better.
I'm going to find a small, quality Bluetooth AptX receiver I can mount on the top to clip the wire. Rec's appreciated.
-Really light- almost flimsy feeling, but not cheap
-Low clamp force, so it doesn't hurt my head after extended periods
-Good sound quality
-rotating cups, just nicer for laying them down flat
-the chord is frighteningly thin.
-the on-ear design isn't as comfortable as the over the ear.
-headband actually feels a bit small. I have to fully extend it and I don't think my head is that big (or ears are that low, haha).
