Now, this is one of the cheapest pairs of headphones that Sennheiser has to offer, but don't let that fool you: these headphones are a moderate force to be considered reasonably. I am a gamer and an at-home music producer of my own music, so I actually use them quite a bit. The cushioning makes them pretty comfortable, and I can definitely say that I could wear these without any pain (maybe 2 hours) much longer than I could with their brother, the HD202's (maybe 30 minutes). Now, my head is big. It's probably considered very big, which brings me to a sad point: the bass response. These headphones are not EQ'd to blow your brains out with bass, and rightly so - that's not really sennheiser's style. They are actually a pretty good contender for a super-cheap flat frequency response pair of headphones. The bass however, has an issue (at least on my head). If the headphones are just on my head, and I'm EQing or mastering some of my music, the bass response is actually fairly weak, but when I gently press the headphones against my ears, the bass is actually quite beautiful - not muffled or too bright. The fact that I have to push them against my head to adequately hear the bass is the loss of 1 star. This problem might be an issue with the size of my head, but still. Now, another issue I had with this pair of headphones (and the 2 sets of HD202's that I owned before these) is the wire. It is a very thin wire protected by generic, cheap wire-protecting-rubberish-material. All of these headphones started to go out in one ear after about a year. The chord near the end, by the plug, would get bent too much on the inside (or something). This gives these headphones the life span of about a year. That's minus another star. BUT price. I paid $23 for an almost-flat-frequency-response pair of headphones. $23. The sound quality you get with these headphones for $23 really is outstanding. If you are on a tight budget, but you need a decent pair of headphones, these are the guys for you. Now, if you're a teeny bopper who just wants a bunch of bass, these are not for you. These are more for musicians who need to hear themselves, or their music more accurately. The ridonkulously low price had me forgive a star I had taken away. I tried Bose OE2i's, Beats by Dre, Bowers & Wilkins P3 and P5, etc... I took three weeks to listen to all the headphones I could find. Price/features/performance/comfort just wasn't there. The ones that met Features/performance/comfort were just too expensive, the cheap ones were either uncomfortable, sounded like mud, or didn't have a mike. The one set of headphones I never got to preview, but wanted to, was the Sennheiser Momentum On Ear's. I would not have spent the money for them, but would have loved to put comparable Sennheiser's up against both the Beats and the Bose OE2i. The Bose OE2i headphones had the most true sound reproduction, bar none, the Beats produced so much bass, that they muddied everything else in my ears. I could not stand them, so if you really really like Beats, know that you will probably disagree with everything I ever say about sound quality. It's subjective, I get that, and I like bass, but I need clear midrange and crystal highs to go with. I would not spend the $179/$199 to buy the Bose OE2i, excellent sound reproduction or not, it was just too much for my use case. I won't be listening to original recordings that will actually deserve that true reproduction, I will be listening to digital music that is not even a full digital lossless recording. I'm not an Audiophile, I'm not a hipster, but I appreciate clear sound reproduction. I picked the Sennheiser 219 S, sound unheard, based entirely on previous experience with Sennheiser, and similarity of design with the Bose OE2i headphones that led me to believe they would be good at sound isolation also. (closed can, on ear design). My Koss Porta pros are the best sound+comfort+money I've ever had. I would simply have ordered a KTC set of those ( [[ASIN:B006QR8W6K Koss Porta Pro KTC Ultimate Portable Headphone for iPod, iPhone and iPad]] ) but they are open headphones and leak sound like CRAZY. I was always afraid I'd look up and people several seats away would be laughing like what happens when folks don't get their headphones plugged in well and their music plays on their speakers too. So I could not use them in the office without dealing with some fear of ridicule. So they set my price range, I'd rather use them with some fear, than spend over $100 for headphones that I didn't think sounded appreciably better. With the Sennheiser 219 S headphones, the comfort level is there. I mean I hardly notice them, going on three hours now with no heat up issues. The sound isolation is TOP Notch. I had my wife test with me, and with them on full volume, with my iPhone 4s cranked all the way on a very loud bass-y recording, there was no perceptible external noise at two feet, closer and I could hear the beat, but not clearly identify the music. When we tried at my normal listening volume, there was no noticeable sound at six inches. Which is office proof enough for me. They dampen external sound even with nothing playing over them beyond what I thought was reasonable expectation (better than the over the are 201's honestly). The sound reproduction is good, really good. If you want great, spend a lot more, but for this price, you are NOT getting an Audiophile headphone, no matter what some reviews here suggest. However, unless you are looking for an active bass booster, like in the Beats, I don't think you'll hear much of a difference. Especially pre-burn-in. They are amazingly good at being what I bought them for. A sound isolating ON EAR headphone that doesn't overheat my ears and doesn't cause my ears to get sore (like EVERY in-ear headphones I've ever used). I'll still use my PortaPros/SportaPros when appropriate, but now I can listen to any music in the office and hear it clearly, without worrying about disturbing my co-workers. Not bad for <$25

I had a pair of beats - they were ok, good sound but not the best. The right channel finally gave up the ghost. Looked into a "cheaper" pair of headphones.

Looked at all the reviews as I always do. Decided on these Sennheisers. Wanted something that would fit OVER the ears - the beats started to hurt my ears after about 30 minutes, felt like your ears were pinned back!

Pros:
clear sound
Seems like the separation of left and right seems "clearer" if that makes sense.
Highs are good and clear
Mids are good also
Fits ears/head well
Covers the ear with little pressure on ear or head
Lightweight

Cons:

Bass is almost non existent
twin cords as opposed to a single
Sound level is about 80% of what it should be
If you want it "loud" - not going to find it here.

If you want a pair of clear headphones that seem to work well and under $25 - these are fine. IF you want more bass and a heavier sound, need to look at another pair.

AS for built well - time will tell.

Fantastic bargain

These $20 headphones replaced $15 ear buds for my iPod classic. They are a fantastic bargain! Especially when I just paid $40 to replace the cable on my Sennheiser 600 headphones. Because I love the 600 so much it made sense to look at their offerings for my more humble iPod needs.
The biggest difference between the $300+ 600's and these is the fact that to get the true quality of the 600's you need to drive them through a headphone amp. I see some reviews saying this is necessary for the HD201, but my iPod drives them perfectly well. I've not had them turned to more than 3/4 of available volume, even with some old and not so well recorded old classic mp3s. For the quality of sound they produce these are a fantastic bargain. They are lightweight and fairly comfortable for several hours at a time. I use them out doors and find they cut out the more annoying noises that would otherwise spoil my music enjoyment. Though they are certainly not sound proof. Even given my positive feelings about Sennheiser from previous experience I admit I was surprised at just how good these are for the price. Highly recommended.

I bought these back in November, and at the time I read some reviews that seemed to suggest that these were "too bassy", and of course there were others that said these were garbage, but most were positive, so I decided to buy them.

Kind of a disappointment. My opinion is that they sound ok, nothing thats going to blow your socks off or anything like that, but they're decent. The bass is a bit lacking, I think the pair of Sonys I have produce more bass, I'm not saying that these are horrible. They do produce good highs, and mids, which seems to make the sound seem wider, and it could be argued that they sound clear. The lack of bass just seems to make them sound a bit artificial to me, but the fact that they were cheap is a plus, but I don't use them as often as i thought I would. These headphones are kinda ugly too, and the cord is very long, when I do use them I have to coil the cord, otherwise I end up stepping on it, or snagging it on random furniture around the house.

So to sum it up; If you're allergic to bass, and like long a long cable than these are for you, if not, I'd look elsewhere
