We use several evolution wireless systems at a local University. It's a great system BUT the ME 2 microphone cable is so very fragile that we have a lot of failures.
A thicker (and maybe even a shorter)cable might solve th problem. The cable failure requires purchases ($112 to $195) of new microphones far too often on a limited budget. This microphone should be designed with a replacement cable in mind.
The Radio Shack Cardioid lapel microphones ($24.99 Cat. 33-3013)is a cheap solution until the Sennheiser cable problem is resolved.
We have had no failures of the Radio Shack microphone cables so far. It works okay (with the 357 battery removed) clipped to your tie but not to your lapel due to it's limitation in directivity.
The reason I found out, after searching online, is that Sennheiser has wired this mic differently than other brands like Sony, and therefore it only works with Sennheiser brand wireless kits.
It's a shame because Sennheiser makes phenomenal microphones, but the proprietary compatibility issue on this mic is very disappointing, and limits the functionality to only those that own a Sennheiser mic kit.
For those looking around for a Sony lav mic equivalent to this microphone, but that works with Sony, Zoom or Canon products, the Sony ECM-V1BMP mic is what I found to be the closest equivalent in terms of performance, quality, and price.
The reason I purchased this microphone was to replace the original one that came on the Sennheiser bodypack about 2 1/2 years ago. The ME 2 that went bad actually failed in the area where the mini-jack plugs into the bodypack, even though there is the rubber support wrapped around the cable. I'm going to assume that this new mic will probably fail in about the same amount of time, and with the same amount of uses. Being that it is used in church, only on Sundays and the occasional weekend retreat, that seems to be a short amount of time before failure, in my opinion.
The microphone works really well, and has a pleasant mid-hi tone boost that isn't boxy sounding at all. I found it very easy to dial in a great eq on the sound board, and with the Lexicon mpx200, it takes effects nicely.
I purchased the mic from Amazon, and received it quickly. They had a great price, and excellent communication.
Overall, I am pleased with my purchase, and look forward to hearing some great preaching over the next couple of years!
