Live the color of these as well. The bright yellow looks really cool. The adjustable volume control comes off and you end up with a shorter length wire, just long enough to connect my ipod shuffle that is attached to my sleeve. Its perfect since I don't have a long wire I have to worry about getting in the way. Glad I was able to find these, since they went out of production.
Highly suggested for anyone looking for affordable earbuds to work out with.
I love the earfin design and previously owned the in-ear type. They were great and I will return these and buy in the in-ear version.
I'll start off with saying that I run quite a bit when I work out and highly recommend that anyone who runs outside on pavements or roads not wear headphones as it could lead to accidents and reduces your situational awareness in regards to cars, other pedestrians, and less than scrupulous characters in bad neighborhoods. However, I think they're perfectly fine in a controlled environment like a gym or outdoor track.
With that out of the way, I purchased these headphones looking for something relatively cheap (hence the $20 price tag) for my workouts at the gym with the occasional running on the tread mill when weather doesn't permit me to run outside. Putting them on at first feels a little odd, the speaker in the headphones is a little larger than what I'd like and the fins are very noticable. I will note they include a variety of different fin sizes, although after trying them all I didn't find any of them to feel natural in the ear. In addition, the cord is too short to keep your MP3 player in your pocket unless you attach the awkward volume controller which greatly extends the length of the cable. Walking around the gym the fins were slightly distracting but tolerable. However, once I began to run the flaw in the design became immediately obvious.
I'll qualify this in that it may just be the shape of my ear cannal but the headphones were both uncomfortable and after I started running they tended to fall off if I kept the cord clipped on my short or tug down on my ears and fall off if it wasn't clipped at all. Naturally this is incredibly irritating and distracting which just about ruins any run. So - what's the point of buying the headphones? It's not the audio quality which resembles the cheaper headphones that other brands provide and fails to meet Sennheiser's typical standards, and it's not the fit or even the cost as I've purchased others which had better performance and feel for less.
In fact, the plastic for the fins started to tear apart after only a few workouts so the MX680 more or less failed me on every category which is why I'm giving it a 1 star. I regret spending the money on the headphones and wouldn't recommend them to any of my friends.
The only real complaint I have is that middle volume control piece. It's an optional extender that makes the chord MUCH too short without it if you work out and clip your iPod to your pants. With the volume control extender, it is extremely heavy and you have to clip it onto something so it doesn't swing. I remedied this through trial and error before finally threading the wire under my shirt and clipping the volume control to my bra strap. It stayed there the entire time I worked out, so it was no big deal.
Other than that, I feel like my money was well spent and they are a HUGE improvement over my favorite earbuds.
