Product Description
The second generation MOMENTUM headset brings signature Sennheiser sound to an updated iconic design. Premium components like the stainless steel headband and real leather covered headband and ear cushions illustrate precision craftsmanship and exude luxury. The new folding headband design provides greater portability. The new slightly larger ear cups feature ergonomically designed, memory foam cushions for improved ambient noise isolation and extreme comfort during long listening sessions. A single-sided detachable cable incorporates an inline remote and mic for controlling music and taking calls. Two versions are available, one for Apple iOS devices and another for Samsung Galaxy devices and most other Android smartphones and tablets. Gen 2 MOMENTUM again raises the performance bar for premium mobile headsets.

The 2.0 are closed back portables meant for casual listening so I am judging them on that basis. First, the comfort issue. The cups from the inside are oval shaped and measure 55x35mm. My ears are 60x30mm and the fit is snug but nice, no problem at all. Is it a full over-ear fit? No, but it's close and they are very comfortable for me even when used for long periods. The headband, everything about the design looks and feels great for me. It all feels solid and well-made. Others have described the tone as warm and rich, I think that is a good description, Clarity and soundstage are really good. For me, they are perfect for casual listening, if you are not a basshead they should ring your bell. I have used them mainly thru my Nexus 6P smartphone. These are terrific portables, very well done: I like the collapsible case that came in the box. I like the hinges on the headband that allow them to fold. I like that there is only one wire on the right side earcup, it's convenient for me when I use them while driving. Only 18 ohm impedance so no amp needed.
I got mine for $205 direct from Amazon and am thinking about getting another pair at that price. That is a great deal...as long as you are able to verify they are real. I also considered the Denon MM400, NAD Viso HP50, and Oppo PM3 but once I saw the 2.0 cheap direct from Amazon I just got them.
Just a final blurb about what I think is a good way to analyze audio products in general, not just headphones. To judge a piece of gear fairly I use the following five categories:
Tone
Portability
Aesthetics/Comfort
Price
Build Quality/Longevity
The over-ear closed-back design disappointingly does not offer the best passive sound isolation available. Much external noise can be heard while wearing the phones in noisy environments. (The wireless version offers active noise reduction technology). The Momentum 2.0 reproduces music with the common U-Shaped sound signature slightly de-emphasising the midrange. Bass is strong but not emphasised as much as with many popular headphones. Sound is detailed though soundstage, as typical with closed-backs, is not particularly wide.
The Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 is a very good pair of headphones. They are musical, comfortable to wear for extended times, and well built. It is easy to recommend these phones. Just for clarification, Sennheiser recently released the HD1 "with Momentum" line of headphones. Apparently the name Momentum is trademarked in the USA and Turkey. The new "version" phones is not technically an update. They are reportedly the same as the Momentum 2.0s.

There's a 'but' coming. From the word go I was a bit concerned about the intsy-winzy jack and, sure enough, within two months it started malfunctioning. I've got a free replacement set from amazon under warranty but I'm not expecting them to last. I hope I'm proved incorrect but the build quality on the end of the cable is worrying.
UPDATE. The replacement has also now broken at the flimsy jack. And now Sennheiser have removed the option for a refund. What a disgrace. AVOID these headphones at all cost or you will find yourself landed with something that only works for a few weeks.

I did have to return them in the end for a refund, this isn't because they are bad - but read below to find out more.
Pro's
Sound
The sound from these headphones is incredible. They have very clear highs and defined mids with a great bass line which doesn't sound muddy. I have been using Sony MDR-XB950BT's which for comparison are much more 'bass' focussed. The Momentum's are clearer sounding than these, while still having a nice "punch" to the sound. They are also crystal clear when talking on the phone (iOS version connected to an iPhone).
Build Quality
They look and feel fantastic, made from real leather on the headband and also the ear cups. They also have a nice metal band which looks ace. The hinge is metal and I have no doubt these headphones will pass the test of time. The removable wire is very solid when inserted as well.
Box
They come in a lovely box with 2 carrying cases. I would say neither of these are exactly 'hard cases' though. One is a sort of hard case which is sturdy enough but I wouldn't trust it in a backpack full of heavy items. It also comes with a soft carrying pouch.
Con's
This is subjective but for me the biggest issue is that the ear-cups are too small. They put pressure on the bottom of your ear and when you move your jaw they can hurt after a time. This won't be the case for everyone but they are on the smaller size of 'over-ear' headphones I have tried. The real leather pads feel great but they aren't very thick or very deep. Your ear can make contact with the actual hard speaker cover which is a bit uncomfortable.

This might be acceptable if you are spending £20 or so, but at a price point over £100 certain standards should be met as a minimum.
It seems as if a lot of "B" stock is being sold and paraded about as regular stock. I had to buy directly from the Sennheiser website to get a pair that I was happy with. It was the third pair I bought and after playing a few difficulty tracks on the headphones the best sounding pair were the ones bought directly from Sennheiser. (BTW they do sound amazing without running in).
So it's basically roulette if you decide to buy.

These headphones are perfect. The sound quality is clear, even for the lowest whispered conversations, while providing robust base when needed for the louder moments, again without it being too loud for the ears. They are comfortable, and should be for most people, but I suffer slightly for lacking hair...so I have a little less padding on top, so the head bars are a little less than perfect. Time will tell if this becomes a problem.
I did want the Ivory and brown colour but they had none available so I ordered black and silver...for some reason though, the pair I received were ivory...so don't assume you'll get the colour you order!
Overall, I would highly recommend them at this price.
