I have a few decent but modestly priced headphones but I needed a compact pair for travel. It needed to fit inside my small laptop backpack or carry bag without bulging out like a couple mangos or grapefruit! Since I hate the feel of in-ear phones and ear buds, I wanted a small pair of "regular" headphones that wouldn't take up a lot of space.

The Sennheiser PX-200-II are a great compromise between sound quality and portability. They're relatively small and fold-up and store inside the included drawstring bag. The sealed ear-cups block out some of the surrounding ambient noise and keep the music to yourself so you're not annoying others nearby.

As for sound quality, they're fine for travel and casual use. However, they're not as good as some others that I own. I did some listening observations comparing the Sennheisers against my other headphones. See photos above for physical shape and size comparisons.

1) Grado SR-80i (~$99): Most natural sounding to me. Clean tight bass w/o over doing it, open crisp mids, extended treble, transparent throughout, detailed, and nicely dynamic. I like these the best. The foam ear-cups are light on your ears and comfortable. The open design allows some ambient noise in and the music out, so not a great choice with others nearby. Grado Prestige Series SR80i Stereo Headphone

2) Sony MDR-V6 (~$65): Another great value in headphones that don't cost a lot. Deep strong bass, more bass and lower midrange emphasis vs the Grados. Transparent and extended frequency response. Sealed ear-cups block out ambient noise and keeps the music in your ears as not to disturb others nearby.

After wrestling with several substandard experiences with in-ear iPhone buds, I finally settled on the PX 200-IIi's, and I'll never look back.

Build quality: These are solid, professional quality. There's no hint of "cheapness" anywhere.

Controller: The buttons have a solid feel, and are easy to find and press due to their raised profile and slightly "sharp" edge. No more fussing about searching for the right button.

Cord: Just the right length. There's no hint of "cord noise" when moving about, which is a huge problem for in-ear buds. The cord is also relatively tangle-free, and the simple single cord design works well and aids in the tangle-free nature. The plug is a slender design, which permits plugging into your iPhone, even with a case that encroaches upon the jack. Nice.

Comfort: Very lightweight, and just the right amount of headband tension make these extremely comfortable. The padding is high quality, and very soft. Ear-cup positioning is perfect. These simply seem to disappear on your head. They are also secure, and stay put when moving around.

Sound: Very flat frequency response, without any hype anywhere in the spectrum. The bass is tight and controlled, and the highs are clear and clean. If you are used to driving around in your 1000 watt rap-mobile with enough bass to cause a nosebleed at 30 feet, these are not for you. However, if you can appreciate what the mastering engineer intends the finished product of quality music to sound like, you'll be happy with these.

Isolation: These phones provide an immersive experience without making you feel like you're in a sensory deprivation tank.

I have heard recommendations for the non headset version of these headphones before, and was very impressed with their sound quality. I have had a wide variety of full open and closed headphones as well as in ears over the years, and these are in a very nice lightweight, no hassle portable sweet spot. It took a bit of trial and error to find a comfortable wearing spot over my ears for long stretches but I've gotten the hang of it.

I like to wear the apple earbuds with the microphone / controls in them around the house so I can listen to music or podcasts as well as continue doing household things if I get a call on my iPhone during that time. However the apple headset was not durable and the microphone stopped working and the sound quality was not the greatest. With this headset I get all the same advantages but with MUCH better sound and a better microphone- plus since it points upward I don't have to worry about which direction it's pointing. I only have to worry about snagging the cord on things and hoping that its more durable, but I plan on putting it through its paces. So far I am extremely satisfied and have been impressed by the quality of every Sennheiser product I've owned including closed headphones, microphones, and now this headset.

I had a pair of PX-200's for 4-5 years that I was very happy with. I purchased another pair for the office and the jack has broken twice in the headphone port. This happened after being tugged on (forcefully but nothing out of the ordinary).
The fact that it happened twice suggests Sennheiser has changed the detailing of their plugs to a point where they are not as sturdy as the older versions.
It's a pity, because I have lost a bit of faith in the brand.
