The Bible teaches that there are conditions that must be met if God is to favorably answer our prayers. This book compiles those conditions into 123 pages. Everything Strauss says here is based on Scripture, so you can read this book with confidence. Strauss is not just making this stuff up. His writing is usually very accessible and can be understood the first time, so you won't have to go back and re-read paragraphs for comprehension. This is a book that is not just for pastors and theologians. It's also extremely practical and one that I would recommend to every Christian. The chapter titles are:

1. Sense or Nonsense? (in which Strauss documents some of the more nonsensical prayers he has heard)

2. Prayer and Unconfessed Sin

3. Prayer and Selfishness

4. Prayer and the Holy Spirit

5. Prayer in Jesus' Name

6. Prayer and Faith

7. Prayer and Unforgiveness

8. Prayer and the Will of God

9. Prayer and Thanksgiving

10. Prayer and Abiding

11. Prayer and Giving

12. Prayer and the Marriage Relationship

13. Prayer and Fasting

14. History's Most Debated Prayer (a line-by-line teaching on what is commonly known as "The Lord's Prayer")

15. The Prayer Life of Jesus (full of application for people who want to have a powerful prayer life!)

16. Questions and Answers

I read at an average speed and I read the entire book in 4 hours.

Of all the books I consulted for an adult Bible study concerning the topic of prayer, this was the best. Lehman Strauss is a gifted teacher and read more than 50 books on the subject of prayer before he wrote this book.

If you're looking for an inspiring book on prayer, this is it! I added this title to my library over 20 years ago and have often pulled it out to re-read portions. Lehman Strauss was blessed with an ability to write with conviction and humor. This is not, as one might expect, a dry, boring book, but one of substance delivered with humor and has the potential to encourage anyone in their prayer life. Over the years I have often given this book as a gift. I highly recommend 'Sense and Nonsense About Prayer'. Since this book is becoming harder to find, I am grateful to be able to order it through Amazon.

When I was reading this book, I had to step back and take a good look at my present day prayer life. I knew that God is my Creator, but He is also my Father, but never considered there had to be a balance between the two. I sometimes forget that my heavenly Father is the Creator of the universe and all things were made by and through Him. He is King of kings, and Lord of lords. It's easy to only think of Him as Father, and the One I run to when I need something or am in trouble. He commands my respect. This book has shown me how to praise God and thank Him for His many blessings, and for suppling all my needs and many of my wants. This is a good book for those who want to take their prayer life seriously, and who want to honor God for His holiness and at the same time as our heavenly Father.

This book clears up a lot of misconceptions about prayer, using the Bible rather than personal opinion. I especially liked the simple, down-to-earth way that it was written. It was recommended to me by a friend, and I highly recommend it to all believers.

Do read this book on prayer written by a most authoritative and loving teacher and pastor. He has a keen way of explaing and teaching on, seemingly, the most difficult of Biblical subjects in a down-to-earth way.

Lehman Strauss is one of my favorite Christian authors, though he is some what underrated, his writing style is warm and theologically sound. This is probably the best book I have read on prayer. Many books on prayer offer great fervour, about discipline and methodology of prayer, but this book actually goes to the Bible to see what it says on prayer. Another thing I like about Strauss is that he makes dispensational distinctions , so he takes Scripture in its proper context. The end of the book also contains a short question and answer format on prayer, which is immensely helpful. This is one of the most balanced, and biblically accurate books on prayer that I have read. As Charles C. Ryrie says on the cover, this is best one volume work on prayer , and I would have to agree. Highly recommended.

Straight to topic, and backed up nicely by Scripture. Going over books on prayer can be frustrating and complicated, not this one, please take the time to purchase and study.
