From the Back Cover

Marty Dandridge Olson is ready to leave behind the pain of the past.
Answering an advertisement for a "Lone Star bride," she leaves her Texas ranch and heads to Denver to marry a man she doesn't know.

Jake Wythe is the man waiting for her.
Burned by love, he marries now simply to satisfy the board of Morgan Bank, which believes a man of his standing in society should be wed. Together Jake and Marty agree they are done with romance and love and will make this nothing more than a marriage of convenience.

When missing money and a collapsing economy threaten his job, Jake's yearning to return to ranching grows ever stronger, much to Marty's dismay. But a fondness has grown between them, as well, further complicating matters.

What will happen when their relationship shifts in unexpected ways...
and dreams and secrets collide?

This is the first book in the Lone Star Brides series from Peterson. It's also her 100th novel. I have read many of her books and I mostly liked this one. I thought it took a little while to get going with the story line. I didn't really like that Marty is lying to her family and then Jake. I understand that she's "mad" at God regarding her first husband but that doesn't mean you lie to everyone. I liked the main characters and even though they had their faults, they're still well developed and their characters progresses through the book in a satisfactory manner.

I liked the secondary characters in the book as much as the primary. Alice is a sweet character who guides Marty, even though she's much younger, back into a relationship with God. The housekeeper and butler were a hoot! I guess I've watched too much Downton though because I saw Mrs. Hughes and Mr. Carson in my mind as I was reading it.

I felt like parts of it were left hanging. The problems at the bank and the mystery surrounding Alice, for example. The ranch. I don't know if these are plot lines for upcoming books or what, but it was kinda disappointing to feel like I read half of the story.

My biggest problem with the book is that there really isn't much interaction with Marty and Jake. Obviously we know what the end result is going to be, but I wanted more of the "how did they fall in love" to the story. Did she even like the flowers he was taking her? Did they go out to dinners? Did they talk beyond the breakfast table or in the study?

I received a copy of the book from Bethany House for a review. No additional compensation has been received and I was not required to write a positive review.

Celebrating Tracie Peterson's 100th book! YES THAT'S RIGHT! I cut my Inspiration fiction reading teeth on Tracie Peterson. I almost fainted when I found myself in the same room with her. Of course the fact I was also six months pregnant and anemic might have had something to do with it.

Anyway, A Sensible Arrangment is a great read. I really loved the fact her heroine was in her 30's. You don't see that as often and Tracie captured the young hip version of this historical heroine ("hip" isn't probably the correct terminology, but cut me some slack) while also giving her the maturity due someone in their thirties who'd experienced the trials of life.

It IS an arranged marriage story. BUT Tracie doesn't go the route of arranging a marriage to save a ranch. Instead our hero is a bank manager trying to save face with the powers-that-be of the bank who find an eligible bachelor less than seemly to hold such a powerful position. Married and settled is far more preferred. Of course, there is the ranch aspect. This is the West (Colorado) to be precise. And Jake wants to ranch while Marty, our heroine, wants to b as far away from it as she can. That's where she came from, and what she's running from. The memories of a marriage that ended to soon. So it wouldn't be a good idea to tell her new husband she holds his dreams in her hands, would it?

OK! no spoilers! The romance between the two is classic Tracie Peterson, as are the Spiritual threads, the gently woven plot that keeps you turning pages and the well-scripted scenery.

She has not disappointed with this one-hundredth book, only proven why Peterson is the MASTER of everything Historical Romance.

I've always been a softie for "arranged marriage" storylines, so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to review "A Sensible Arrangement." The word "sensible" describes not only the characters' marriage, but also the characters themselves. Jake is doing the sensible thing by working at a bank job he deplores so he can save up his money to purchase a ranch, a lifelong dream. Marty does the sensible thing in trying to support herself through an arranged marriage, one of the few options open to an impoverished woman in 1892. After her husband is killed in a ranch accident, she doesn't wish to continue to be a burden to her sister and family, so she accepts a proposal of marriage from a man she's never met. It wouldn't be spoiling the plot to tell the reader that Jake and Marty begin to have romantic feelings for each other, but there's a big problem: Jake dreams of returning to Texas, while Marty has no desire to go back to ranching in Texas after her husband's death. I really enjoyed getting to know both of these characters. Marty is a pistol-packing lady who prevents a stage robbery as the story begins, and Jake is a man who's been bruised by a turbulent love life in the past. Both find healing together. I can't wait to read more about Marty and Jake's adventures in the next book in the Lone Star Brides series.

Book One in the Lone Star Brides series this is a great way to open the series up. This was my first book by Tracie Peterson that I have read and I must say that I truly enjoyed it. As a fan of historical fiction this was totally a book I would have chosen as a personal read. It was well written with a great story that keeps your attention all the way through. It’s got enough action in it to hold your attention. And just enough mystery and romance to feed the romantic in all of us.

A Sensible Arrangement is a story about Marty and Jake two people who had married before and both widowed. Jake decides to marry but only in name. Marty answers an advertisement to marry a man she has never met in order to escape the vivid memories of man she loved with her whole heart. However, as the economy changes will that disrupt Marty and Jakes plans or will they allow their fondness for each other to grow into something more?

It will capture your attention and you will find yourself rooting for Marty and Jake as they encounter many challenges to their “sensible arrangement”.
