How did you come up with the idea for this product?
The co-founders of Sensoria are Italian and have a technology background, having previously worked at Microsoft. In late 2010 we started to feel that there was an opportunity for the sports apparel and fashion industry to reinvent itself through technology, so we set out to create smart garments that behave like a biometric sensing computer and still feel natural and look cool and elegant. One of the turning points in our product development story came as a result of a visit to his local Starbucks. One of us spilt coffee on our socks making us feel the heat. The experience got us thinking that, rather than having technology attached to clothing, the textile itself need to be the sensorial computer. We started researching and testing and nine months later... The Sensoria Fitness Socks were born.
What makes your product special?
The vision that Sensoria has is that "The Garment is the Computer". We provide a natural and intuitive way of using technology to enhance everyday sports and fitness experiences. One of the things we do everyday is putting on our clothes. Of course, we typically wear different types of clothing for different activities. There are over 36 million active runners in the US and over 60% get injured each year. Sensoria is focused on introducing smart garments with sensors infused into the textile to improve both performance and running form. We offer an innovative running system that helps runners improve not just how far and how fast they run, but also how WELL they run. The system include smart socks that allow runners to monitor parameters related to their running form such as foot landing, cadence and time on the ground. This information may help to improve performance and reduce risk of injury. We also offer upper body garments (sports bra and t-shirt) with integrated heart rate monitoring for runners interested in cardio training.
