In November 2009, Drs. Wish everyone - especially people who work with children - would watch this. We all have sensory needs. Understanding how sensory processing allows you to understand your needs and the needs of others.
I will review this again as it is something that we tend to forget and need to remember.
What you get in this valuable set are two DVDs: Disk One features Drs. Brock and Fernette Eide who cover the more neurological and clinical aspects of SPD, including causes, where SPD behaviors stem from, and explanations of the various sensory systems; Disk Two features top-notch OTR/L and author Lindsey Biel who covers the more one-on-one workings with these children including Sensory Diet for home and school, wonderful tips for daily struggles caregivers encounter as well as how to work with teachers to help these children with school and learning.
I initially thought these experts would be in front of the camera but the entire DVD is their presentation from their 2009 Webinar. It was wonderful because they were answering questions and we get to see some of the slides/presentation materials used from the original master class. What I loved the most was that they were all so professional but still presented the material in a basic, layman's way so even the newest members in the SPD Community will be able to understand the material.
I highly recommend this DVD set then also recommend viewers also get the books these presenters have written. All together, you'd have almost everything you'd need to help your 'sensational' child through whatever challenges he faces with confidence.
Thank you Drs. Eide and Lindsey for sharing this DVD with caregivers, educators and fellow therapists and for making it both so accessible and affordable.
