There are many self-groomers for cats here on amazon and after spending days reading reviews I settled on this one because of its color, which is inconspicuous on my off-white walls, and its reasonable price. I'm puzzled by the poor reviews and can only think that the reviewers may not have tried to make it work and/or make it attractive for their cats to use. (Of course, from reading the reviews you know it has to be permanently affixed to the wall; four screws do the job nicely without power tools.)
Cat's have a reputation for being finicky and after the initial love affair, courtesy of the included catnip that left him weak-kneed, mine lost interest. Fortunately I read a review on amazon not long afterwards mentioning liquid catnip and this product, I Love Catnip! By Pet Mastermind 4 Oz Safe and Natural Liquid Catnip Spray - Made From 100% Canadian Grown Catnip! ... was the answer. Some reviewers mentioned that their cats like the groomer so much that the included pack of catnip is no longer necessary, but since it did work once with my cat I purchased the more-economical larger bottle and my cat has been using the groomer happily ever since. All it takes is a squirt or two to each side periodically and since mine is attracted to noises made with fingernails I run an index finger down each side to draw him to it.
For those of you whose cats aren't attracted to catnip, you have my deepest sympathy
UPDATE: This lure of this groomer plunged when my cat lost interest in the smell of catnip, subsequently ignoring the groomer for months. I thought to give I Love Catnip mentioned above another try yesterday and three squirts on each side did the trick!
