I got the safe and was able to install the battery and set up a code in minutes. It's heavy which is good. The gas strut is quite strong and will open the lid pretty quickly. I tested the buttons for quite some time. Only once did I mess it up when I forgot that the 1st button awakens it. I treated it as part of the combination. Had I looked at the light and noticed it hadn't come on I would have realized it.

Press a button, all 4 buttons light up blue momentarily. Presumably this is so you can now see where the 4 buttons are in the dark. If you were to just start pressing in a combination without seeing them there's a decent chance you'd get it wrong. In combination with the nub on the first button it should be easy to use in low light or darkness. Then with each button press a little green light lights up. You can feel a soft 'click' on each positive button press. Well not really a click, but you can feel the button bottom out. On the last button the lid pops up. You do need to be very positive with the button presses. I think it's good it's not super easy, someone could sit there and try to guess your code repeatedly (inquisitive kids?).

Mine had a nasty squeal when the lid popped up. Put a drop of gun oil on each moving spot .. on the last one at the bottom of the strut, the squeal went away. I won't ding it because it needed a drop of oil.

Holds a medium sized handgun easily with 2 magazines, maybe even 3 or 4.

Has holes for wall or floor mounting.

No cable included.

backup Keys included (x2). good instructions, included contact numbers for new keys or help.

Style Name: Biometric Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )

When fingerprint scanning technology first came into mainstream usage, I was less than impressed. My first encounter with fingerprint scanners was at a bank. I remember watching people wrestle to get the scanners to work and leaving me with the impression they were less than reliable. Since witnessing that, I had always stayed away from the biometric lock technologies. So when I had the opportunity to test the SentrySafe Biometric Quick Access Pistol Safe, I was a bit skeptical, but was quite interested to see how the reliability of biometric locks has changed.

I unpacked the safe and found that it requires 4 AA batteries, which are not included. Once the safe was unlocked with the key and the batteries installed, the safe needs to be programmed with fingerprints and/or a personal code. According to the directions, the safe comes with a pre-programmed code. This code did not work for my safe and I am going to guess that portion of the directions were for another model of safe (the instructions are for several models). I programmed a code into the safe and then set out to work on programming the fingerprints. If the directions are followed, programming the safe is quick and easy.

When programming the safe to use with fingerprints, the safe requires each user to scan two fingers in. Each finger takes multiple scans, between 5 and 10 according to the directions. This was correct when I programmed the unit for fingerprints. I programmed the safe to work with my wife's prints and mine. The safe worked flawlessly with the fingerprint scanner. The only time we had issues is when we tried to scan our fingers too fast.

For the heck of it, I gave the empty safe to my kids to try and open.

This thing is perfect for mounting on the wall at the head of your bed. It reads my fingerprint just fine and the code pad responds instantly! The code pad needs one press to come out of sleep mode and will instantly be ready for your code entry. To help you be fast and smooth with your code dialing I suggest you act as if the first number is doubled. So if your code is "1212" you would want to tell yourself to dial "11212" then you won't miss a beat! The fingerprint recognition is high-quality and useful. It wakes up the second you touch it then you slide your finger towards yourself across the metal reader. Once you swipe your finger it takes about one full second for the safe to open. In my picture you can see I added a motion sensing LED light and a magnetic gun mount. I bought both of these on Amazon as well.

I've had this for two months now and the batteries have died twice which is absolutely unacceptable. I'm not going to put my families safety at risk because the batteries keep dying and not be able to get into my safe in the case of an intruder, especially in the dark where I would have to scramble to find the keys to get it open. On the plus side, it is very quiet and work just fine when the batteries aren't dead however I would recommend looking at other models.

I left this exact same review on Sentries website and the picture bow shows what I got back. They "moderated" my review which means they deleted it because they didn't like the truth about their product. Shame on them for not be truthful and honest.

I would rate this safe 4.5/5 stars.

This safe is very solid and it does not suffer from very serious design flaws of other small gun safes. The code reset for this safe is underneath a plastic panel and a battery pack inside the safe. Other safes of this type by stack-on and others can have their codes reset by introducing a paper clip into a crack in the safe and pressing the reset button... this is impossible with this safe. This safe also does not suffer from intrusion by dropping the safe at an angle to release the solenoid as with other safes.

The interior space in this safe is great enough to comfortably store a full-size .45 ACP with multiple magazines. There is also a set of screws and screw holes in the safe to allow it to be secured to something to keep it from being stolen. The screws cannot be accessed unless the safe is opened, so it is quite secure.

The only problem I have with the safe is the keypad, which is slightly spongy and doesn't have a tactile "click" when you press the buttons. There is a possibility that you might mis-enter the code in an emergency, as you don't have any tactile feedback when pressing the buttons. You also have to remember to press one button to activate the mechanism before entering your code. This could cause a problem if you are in a life-or-death emergency, but I think that most people will be fine with it.

If I had to offer a suggestion, the only thing I would change is the keypad. This would be a five-star safe if the keypad had an audible or tactile feedback when buttons were pressed.

BOTTOM LINE: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
