From the Inside Flap

From ancient royal palaces and Korean traditional houses to all-night markets, N Seoul Tower, and the club scene, no city combines the ancient and the contemporary quite like Seoul. Local experts weigh in on one of the world's most dynamic cities, including contributions from Robert Neff, Tracey Stark, Daniel Gray, Kim Young-sook, Joel Levin, Michael J. Meyers, and Mary Crowe. A comedian details the five things you must bring to Korea, a food writer picks five favorite restaurants, and a prominent meteorologist provides the low-down on Seoul's climate. You'll also find insider takes on local mountains and ghosts, as well as movies, tea houses, night spots, the economy, cultural treasures, essential reads, Buddhist shrines, and Seoul's amazing postwar evolution. From the DMZ, the Han River, and Cheonggyecheon Stream to navigating local dining, linguistics, and cultural practices, this completely updated edition of Seoul Book of Everything is your key to Seoul's neighborhoods, green spaces, and urban design, as well as its history, museums, pop culture, and shopping. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

I travel to Seoul frequently on business. A colleague there gave me this book as a gift. It is incredible. i read the whole thing in 1-2 days and was interested in every section. As a savvy traveller, I don't need to know what hotels to stay at or how to get from the airport to the CBD. This book fills in details on all the little things you see or hear about while you're there. The food section was particularly helpful. Really interesting and well done. Wish an electronic version were available.

This book is a poor guidebook. It contains some interesting information but if you're looking for a good book to guide you through sprawling Seoul this is not your book. Among other defects it dies not link locations mentioned to a map as often found these days with links to transportation. I have no idea why this book is so highly rated. If you want background information it's good but if you want a useful guide to Seoul look elsewhere.

I have been living in Seoul for the last 8 months and I found this book very helpful. In a city where last years information is out of date this information is good, timely and to the point.

This book was a really comprehensive and informative book about the city of Seoul, and I really enjoyed it! It was a very easy read, and I finished the whole book within an hour! I really did like this book, but a few things that I think would have made it better would be some pictures. A good portion of the book also focuses on aspects outside the contemporary part of the city such as the older imperial grounds, the famous skyscrapers, and the general natural environment that Seoul also has to offer (mountains like Namsan, or the Han River), yet there are no pictures to accompany these descriptions. But other than that, it was an enjoyable introduction to what Seoul has to offer.
