But on an evening out to a local honky tonk determined to kick up her heels away from the ranch, and wearing her springiest red tube top, Ava runs into her mysterious new alpha and the flames spiral out of control. Can Landon quench the fire between them? Does he want to? Or will it burn out of control?
Serengeti Heat was a delicious novella to devour but savor slowly. Andrews has penned a compact, passionate short story that is extremely well written, in fact better than some full-length paranormal novels I have read. Sometimes writing a short story is a bigger challenge than a full-fledged novel. No words are wasted by Andrews but each and every one designed for steamy impact. The outcome is a tasteful piece that will win audiences over. I'm sold. I will definitely be reading more of Vivi Andrews starting with the sequel Serengeti Storm!
Ava and Landon met, generated some fabulous heat and set the stage for overcoming the problem of Ava being the "runt of the litter". Other minor characters are introduced that reinforce the lack of standing she has with the pride and put in place some politics that may need to be faced by Ava and/or Ava and Landon.
But then they're solved by a simple declaration by Landon that she's his mate - huh??? Ava didn't really have to confront anyone, no one really offered an objection, yet all of the previous treatment of Ava would indicate that there should have been some of these problems to deal with.
The author completely skipped the dealing with the issue to get to the happy ever after and just gave us the HEA leaving the issues supposedly solved but in my mind undealt with.
The book had great potential, had the author stuck with the basic format of a romance novel and had our couple face and deal with their issues it would have been reached. Instead it was an entertaining read but fell short leaving you wandering what happened.
I love the way this story plays up the animal side of the characters without letting it become a case of "destiny has linked us and therefore you love me before you even know me." Ava and Landon's hot animal attraction is tempered with very human discretion, strengths, insecurities and awkwardness, creating a very engaging tale.
This is a smart, witty, whirlwind of a book with well-drawn, strong characters, fast-paced action, and generous helpings of steamy, no-holds-barred loving along the way. I hope Ava's brothers and Landon's sister will get their own stories in the near future!
HIGH LEVEL: Short, cat shifter romance- predictable and basic, but sexy and sweet at the same time. Book 1 of the series. It's a quick read, a simple story, easily forgotten, but you'll enjoy it while you've got it- like cotton candy. Also like cotton candy there will be moments when you want to roll your eyes at how incredibly sweet (or corny) it is. There is no hard, brutal edge to this story.
PLOT: There really isn't one and for a day at the beach, that's ok. You're looking for para-romance, then this will cover it. Not really erotica- the sex is simple and straightforward, but HOT all the same.
CHARACTERS: Stereotypical- dominant male, sassy, but smaller female protected by big brothers. No development.
BOTTOM LINE: This isn't a great book, but it will get you there. If you are looking for something reassuring where the nice guys win, there's hot sex involved and the characters can turn into big angry lions with huge teeth, then this is for you. But don't look for anything other than that.
RECOMMENDATIONS: (these are all pretty basic shifter-centric para-romance)
1. R.G. Alexander's steamy vampire/were/witch romance series: Regina in the Sun (Children of the Goddess)
2. Vivian Arend's Wolf Signs: Granite Lake Wolves, Book 1 fun, light were-romance series
3. Loribelle Hunt's sexually daring werewolf romance Once Bitten [Spellbound Moon 1]

I love Ava. She is brave but beat down. Her overprotective brothers need a slap in the head. Landon is sweet. He sees in Ava what some saw and others did not care to see. Read morePublished 19 months ago by S. E. Hochstetler
A 3.5 and a good read. Too short. Definitely wanted more and the ending was too rushed. Hell, the entire relationship was too rushed. But a good read.Published on August 20, 2013 by ACOOK

The story starts strong but then turns predictable. There are much better shifter novels out there. I think it is over priced for the amount of content.Published on March 22, 2013 by mirabella2
