Shelby stays true to form as maybe a bit older on the outside, but the inside still believing in a young man’s dreams of happiness and making the world right.
The antagonist—oh, man did I HATE him. Yet, as the story went on, the reader comes to understand his actions. Let me state this: I couldn’t, as is my habit, read this book before sleeping. I did the first night and woke up from a night terror. Oh yes, thank you very much for that, Mr. Hart! It was like watching Criminal Minds and then expecting a restful night.
Although I could live with a whole lot less use of the f-word, I recognize that that’s my personal preference. Given the fact that this book is so well-written, I’ll be looking forward to book #3.
Leslie continues to worry about her father's health and he is just grateful that she is in his life. Shelby and his daughter had rebuilt their relationship, but it had been a slow process. At least she cares about his health now...
Shelby's girlfriend, Carly had to change her phone number because a man would not stop bothering her. They had been "sexting" until she found out he had a wife, then she broke off. The man will not leave her alone, so she asks Shelby to talk to him. He pays the man a visit...
He decided to go back later to try to speak to the wife, but when he arrives, the house is cordoned off with crime scene tape and loitering policemen are everywhere...
Smith chooses his next victim and is overwhelmed by the emotions he feels for her...
Shelby is being framed for murder and does not know by who or how -- or why...
This second book of the The Shelby Alexander Thriller Series. It is a decent, short read, so it is easy to finish pretty quickly. It was a good story overall. The ending left the reader in suspense and invites you to hurry up and read Serenity Avenged!
Note: there was a bit too much of the f-bomb for my taste, so I dropped a star for that reason (I tried to overlook it in SERENITY).
Craig Hart writes well in every aspect; the book is a quick, smooth read. It is flawless in its format, layout, and lack of errors. It was nice to see the some repeat characters, as well as a few new ones. That part deserves fives stars. The idea of a serial killer has become almost too much for me. Writers have written so many permutations around this theme that it has become almost too a familiar form in mystery/thriller plots. For myself, this book was not surprising, nor thrilling. Despite the fine writing of Hart, this was a slog for me. It was predictable and did not have the zing of the first book. I substracted one star for that lack.
I have Serenity Avenged in my library; that is my next stop after posting this review. I have expectations this one will be on the same level as Serenity. Do not pass this book by if you like mayhem, as there is plenty in this volume! It is worth reading if you enjoy reading for the style of the writer as much as the plot. Craig Hart writes quite well!
